These comments were made during focus groups discussing the library's reference service:
-appreciated Library web site, especially for information about how to contact the Library
-appreciated the list of subject librarians
-noticed dictionaries (very interested in this)
-like the various ways to look up journals
-appreciate access to databases
-interaction with library involves forward looking, planning, i.e. psychology web site
-excellent electronic resources
-like the page, likes the big buttons, has learned to navigate
-website gives information but not a higher level of understanding
-the updates to web site are not too dramatic or disruptive
-looks for contact information on web page
-Main page is very clear, focuses on searching – would like to see more space for advertising and more links to reference services
-noticed NEW information/resources i.e. RACER but once you get used to a page you don’t look at it anymore
-contact the librarian page is great
-resources need to be promoted – especially to new students
-new faculty and students need help with basic terms – library jargon i.e. what is TRELLIS?
-web site too complicated
-issue is about teaching, websites aren’t good for teaching
-web site is too complicated, not intuitive
-new service, saw the advertisement but could not find the link to access it
-would like to see a tool to translate journal abbreviations to full titles
-when referring to reference services student wasn’t sure it was on the main page
-drop down menus don't tell you much about what is behind them - having it all laid out would be easier
-more content about the books in Trellis would be good and perhaps having a section that deals with recommended books by course would be good
-there should be a link on the homepage to information about the services (such as reference) available
-tips should be listed on the web site - ie)psych books are in this call number range
-"tip of the day" might be useful
