WINTER
- OLA Super Conference : The Ontario Library Association's annual Super Conference is held in January or February in Toronto. The 2008 Super Conference will run from January 30 - February 2 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.
Member organizations OCULA and OSLA usually sponsor sessions on instruction issues for academic libraries and school libraries.
SPRING
- ACRL
Events & Conferences:
ACRL, the largest division of the American Library Association (ALA), is dedicated to enhancing the ability of academic library and information professionals to serve the information needs of the higher education community and to improve learning, teaching, and research. The next ACRL National Conference themed "Pushing the Edge: Explore, Engage, Extend," will be held in Seattle, WA in 2009 at the Washington State Trade and Convention Center from March 12-15.
- LOEX 35th National Conference: Founded in 1971 after the "First Annual Conference on Library Orientation" at Eastern Michigan University, LOEX (Library Orientation Exchange) has grown from a lending repository of library instruction materials and host of an annual conference on the subject to an internationally known organization that serves as a conduit for those working in the field. The 2007 LOEX annual conference is to be held in San Diego, California, May 3-5 at the Bahia Resort Hotel).
- LOEX-of-the-WEST: LOEX-of-the-West is not officially associated with the LOEX Clearinghouse for Library Instruction at the Eastern Michigan University Library. However, the LOEX-of-the-West conferences have followed the LOEX conference model of a limited number of attendees, promoting an atmosphere for library professionals to learn and share experiences and ideas with others. These conferences are held every 2 years in the western US. The 2008 conference will be hosted by librarians at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
- WILU 2008: WILU provides a Canadian venue for the "grass roots" exchange of ideas amongst practitioners in information literacy instruction. The 2008 WILU conference will be hosted by University of British Colkumbia's Okanagan Campus, Kelowna, BC, May 14-16.
SUMMER
- ALA Annual Conference:
The American Library Association is the oldest and largest library association in the world.
Its 2007 annual
conference will be held June 21-27 in the
Washington Convention Center, located at 801 Mount Vernon Place, NW, Wahington D.C..
- eLit International
Conference on eLiteracy:
The eLit program is hosted by the University of Glasgow and maintained by that institution's IT Education Unit.
The eLit conference series began in 2002 and annual conferences were held each year through 2006. No event is scheduled for 2007.
- 23rd Annual Conference
on Distance Teaching and Learning:The Annual Conference on Distance Teaching & Learning is recognized internationally for the quality and integrity of its program. The 2007 conference will run from August 8-10 at the Monona Terrace Convention Center, Madison, WI..
FALL
- ACCESS:This Canadian conference focuses on leading edge information technology for librarians. The 2007 ACCESS conference will be held in Victoria, B.C. from October 10-13.

- Canadian Journal of Information and Library Science purpose is to contribute to the advancement of information and library science in Canada.
- College and Research Libraries is a scholarly research journal published bi-monthly by the Association of College & Research Libraries
- College and Research Libraries News
is a monthly newsmagazine, featuring articles on the latest trends and practices affecting academic and research libraries and the official news of ACRL. Select articles are available online.
- Communications in Information Literacy is a new open access, independently published journal focussing on issues in infromation literacy. It will be published on a quarterly basis.
- Educause Review takes a broad look at current developments and trends in information technology, what these mean for higher education, and how they may affect the college/university as a whole.
- Information Research is an open access, international, scholarly journal, dedicated to making accessible the results of research across a wide range of information-related disciplines.
- Journal of Academic Librarianship
an international and refereed journal, publishes articles that focus on problems and issues germane to college and university libraries.
provides a forum for authors to present research findings and, where applicable, their practical applications and significance; analyze policies, practices, issues, and trends; speculate about the future of academic librarianship; present analytical bibliographic essays and philosophical treatises
- portal: Libraries and the Academy examines the role of libraries in meeting institutional missions, explores how technology affects librarianship and scholarship, and conveys this research to academic librarians in a timely manner. portal earned recognition as the runner-up for the best new journal of 2001, awarded by the Council of Editors of Learned Journals (CELJ).
- Reference Services Review
is a quarterly, refereed journal dedicated to the enrichment of reference knowledge and the advancement of reference services.
- Reference and User Services Quarterly purpose is to disseminate information of interest to reference librarians, information specialists, and other professionals involved in user-oriented library services.
- Research Strategies
is a quarterly, refereed journal providing the library profession with the latest thinking and research on instructional services and the educational mission of the library. Elsevier discontinued publishing thios journal in 2006. Back issues are still relvant.

ListServs, Blogs and Wikis

- IS - ACRLwiki- has a wealth of expertise, experience, and enthusiasm related a wide range of issues related to instruction and information. The Section provides programs at the ALA and ACRL conferences, forums for members to share ideas, documents and standards that guide practicing librarians, and a wide range of opportunities for networking in person and online with colleagues who have similar interests.
