1. Business Arising:
a).1996/97 Statistics. Drop in Power Mac (WWW) statistics have
been reported.
Action: Yulerette G. and Anne F. will follow up on reporting the 1996/97
CD ROM Drop in Clinic statistics of the 4 sessions held.
b).Larry Brown submitted a new version of a WATCAT game for the
Committee's review. Last year's version of the game is preferred due to
its extensive use of WATCAT. The new version of the WATCAT game will be
kept and reviewed for future use.
Action: Susan A. will discuss the WATCAT games with Larry B. to see if
last years format can be used again. One of lasts year's title searches
needs to be replaced with a new title due to a cataloguing correction. A
change in the design of the title page to include more emphasis on winning
a prize and first year student eligibility is also needed
c).Jane F. sent a copy of the brochure for the Student Life 101
event to Graphic Design and is waiting for a response. Depending on the
design and printing the cost could vary from $200-$600.
Action: Jane F. will work with Graphic Design on the development of this
brochure. The design may be used for other events including; Arts Faculty
Day, Campus Day, Feds Newspaper orientation add, etc.
d). Anne F. located the orientation advertisement that was in the
1996 orientation newspaper.
Action: A new advertisement for 1997 reflecting the theme of the Student
Life 101 brochure was discussed and will be reviewed by the committee.
e). There are currently a sufficient number of Mini Guides
available. There are 2000 for Porter and at least 2000 for Davis.
Additional printing may not be required due to the changes with
Voyager/Tug in January 1997.
Action: Yulerette G. will contact Graphic Services to see if any of their
services will be changing for 1997/98 - prices, venda cards etc., Ann
N. will ensure UMD sections of the guides are correct.
2. User Education Budget has been established.
Action: Anne F. will contact Lorraine Beattie to work out the details.
3. Orientation Activities
a). Anne F. will contact the Book Store to see if they are
interested in donating a prize for the WATCAT game and will also look into
leaving the game in first year students' residence.
b). Grad Student card/brochure. The deadline for the brochure is
July 3, 1997. 2000 copies are required. The 1996 Grad flyer will be used
with the 1997 Grad orientation sessions listed on the back.
c). The Grad Student Web Site can function as is.
d). Library Poster. Cost of changing the poster is being
reviewed. Printing last year's poster using a new colour or creating a
new poster enhancing the theme with "Our focus is You".
e). Orientation Brochure. A new picture is being sought that
encompasses the student with the theme "Our focus is You". Ann N. and
Susan A. will search through existing library pictures for possible use
with the brochure and the poster.
f).Walking Tours Handout. Jane F. and Yulerette G. will make any
necessary corrections to the Porter and Davis Walking Tour brochures and
route them to Esther Millar for a draft copy. The draft will be reviewed
by the committee. Susan A. will laminated 4 copies of the final version
to enable reuse.
g). General Tours, Grad Sessions, WWW Sessions. Last year's days
and times will be used. Dates will be adjusted.
h). Yulerette G. will consult with Doug Morton regarding the
schedule for the CD ROM basics clinics.
I). Jane F. will conduct a Campus Solutions Session.
