Minutes

Present: Anne Fullerton (chair), Susan Arruda (User Services), Jane Forgay
(Porter Reference and recorder), Yulerette Gordon (Davis Reference), Ann
Naese (UMD).

1. FALL ORIENTATION -- PUBLICATION UPDATE
Final revisions were discussed for:
a) Grad Student card,
ACTION: Anne F. to show changes to Cheryl Kieswetter.
b) UW Library is the Place (Student Life 101)
ACTION: Anne to relay revised text to Cheryl Kieswetter, who will then
prepare a schedule for the general tours for recording names of
tour guides.
ACTION: Susan to relay to Larry Brown re design, who will finalize with
Esther.
ACTION: Jane to select colour and contact Cheryl Kieswetter re # of
copies for the ARTS pre-registration days starting June 16.
c) Searching Electronic Databases
ACTION: Ann N. to relay to Doug Morton, then finalize with Cheryl.
d) Davis Walking Tour
ACTION: Yulerette to re-copy, then give to Ann N. for laminating.
e) Porter Walking Tour
ACTION: Jane to try to shorten tour, then send to Esther.
f) individual flyers for Citation Indexes and Citing Electronic
Sources sessions.
ACTION: Jane to check with Shabiran to see if flyers are needed for these.

2. RESIDENCES AND USER EDUCATION
Margaret Hendley has recommended that in light of the Ron Eydt Village
getting "wired" (by the fall) that the Library might investigate how we
could connect with students at the Village. A preliminary meeting was
suggested with the Village dons to get a feel for what activities/sessions
would be effective in that setting.

ACTION: Anne F. to follow up with Margaret, who had been on a committee
that planned the study space at the Village, so that further contacts
could be set up.

ACTION: Jane to conduct a literature/web search to see whether discussions
about user education and campus residences can be found.

3. CONNECTING WITH NEW FACULTY
ACTION: Ann N. will conduct a literature/web search to see whether
information about user education in this area can be found.
ACTION: Anne to follow up with Gary Waller and Murray Shepherd on their
ideas.

4. RQ
ACTION: Anne will circulate the table of contents of the latest issue of
_RQ_ which has a number of articles on user education.
