Minutes

Present: Jane Forgay, Yulerette Gordon,,Anne Fullerton, Ann Naese

1. Internet Cafe
Jane will continue to be our contact on this. We'll plan a program
for 1st years and promote it at Student Life 101

2. Student Life 101
Yulerette is the contact for dates and details.

3. Annual Report
We'll put out one for 1996/97, 97/98 combined and may add in 1995/96
figures for comparison. There has been a huge decline in Course Related
Instruction over the last 3 years.

Action: Anne will bring the stats to the next meeting.

4. Liaison Librarians
We talked about the decline in CRW stats and our interest in providing
support for LL in terms of instructional skills and how to
collaborate/cooperate with faculty, Ann N. said strategies for increasing
class use of UMD were on her goals this year. Anne described a program at
U. Arizona on both these topics and the TRACE interest in these topics. We
talked about a morning coffee-klatch with LL to get them talking about CRW
and a workshop.

Action: Anne will get the details of the U of Arizona programs.
Action: We'll investigate getting a CACUL grant to run a workshop over the
next year on collaborating with faculty.

We discussed other options such as meeting with Library Reps and meeting
with Client Services Process Group to discuss the workshop idea further.
Also approaching TRACE for assistance, And perhaps involving Guelph
Laurier librarians.

Action: organizing this workshop will be one of our goals for the year.

5. Fall Orientation
Some of us expressed boredom with the current program. We'll look at the
stats and see where we could make changes.

We proposed to offer the following:
Tours - contact Susan, Yulerette, Ann
Internet Cafe - contact Jane
TRELLIS workshops - contact Jane, Yulerette
Basic Searching - contact Yulerette (Doug plus others)
WWW demo - contact Yulerette (Anne, Jim and Christine)
International Students - contact Yulerette (Wendy?, Shabiran?, Ann)
Graduate Students - contact Yulerette (Jim and Wendy)
Disabled Student contact Jane
New Faculty - contact Ann

The New Faculty item is a proposal for a morning coffee break with Liaison
Librarians (afternoon sherry or wine was also discussed) - a get to know
you event. This is done at Virginia Tech in some dept. and is very
successful.

We talked about another goal - follow-up with users who take our UserEd
sessions to see if they were worthwhile, could be changed etc. Anne is a
member of CNAG and can bring the issue to this group.

Action: We will need to put together a proposal for focus groups or
similar feedback mechanism.

6. UserEd Meetings
We propose to meet every Monday from 1- 2:30 p.m. through May and June.
After that, we'll aim for the first Monday of every month. Linda will
have a conflict with IRC every second week so she may not be able to
attend all meetings.

Action: Anne will book meetings in Davis Conference Room.
