Re: Discussion about User Education Committee's Terms of Reference

Objectives ideas

1. Coordinate the non-discipline orientations within the Library which
include tours, TRELLIS demo's/hands-on workshops, etc. This task can
be time consuming.

Interests for the upcoming year
- student peer delivery of directional assistance. Some details to
look into are how many students would be required, training
each term, cost.

2. Prepare general publications/displays on orientation for paper and web
publication.

Interest
- The Committee discussed being involved in establishing what
service signage may be needed in the Library but the group was
not sure at what level of involvement the group should have.

3. Give informational support to Liaison Librarians.

Interests for the upcoming year
- develop a workshop or 'PD' half day that would focus on local
needs i.e., how to give sessions in different environments. To
find out what Liaison Librarians concerns are, a web page/form
could be developed for comments. The Committee would monitor the web
page and determine a topic for the workshop.
- Include a link on UserEd staffweb web page to an abstract with
an interesting library instructional paper of the month. There
could be an e-mail address so Librarians could request a
photocopy of the paper.

4. Disseminate information through committee representatives to
individuals' departments. Place minutes and other information on the
Staffweb.

Interests for the upcoming year
- give more structure for the UserEd staffweb page. An example to
review is Louise McGill's
http://beothuk.swgc.mun.ca/~mcgillis/li/instruction.html
- parse the information from the stats form into a database so
information could be put on the web for all staff to review.
- locate or develop a Flow of Information Chart for Humanities

Membership

1. Representation:
- Liaison Librarians from Dana Porter and Davis Centre Reference
Departments
- Reference Librarian for students with disabilities
- Staff for User Services, ILL/DD, UMD Library
- consultant - Library Assistant, Graphic Design specialty

2. There is information sharing/understanding across departmental lines.
Communication is by e-mail and within meetings which are held at least
once a month.

Interests
- For graphic design does the Committee's work have any
priority with the Graphic Design Library Assistant. If
the Library Assistant is not available does the Committee use UW
Graphic Services or other library staff who have design skills.
- How the UserEd Committee relates to:
- Usered education to UG & WLU
- Publications Group
- Client Services
