Present: Jane Forgay, Anne Fullerton, Erin Murphy, Ann Naese, Connie
Shuttleworth, Melanie Watkins
Guests: Chris Gray, Amos Lakos
1. Parsing workshop data into UserEd Excel database -
Chris showed us a prototype for a similar project for IRMC and descried
how Access can be used along with a web-based form for entering data,
searching the database and publishing the database on thew web. He will
set up a prototype for UserEd subject to System dept. approval. We also
discussed backup plans using the current Excel database and the work of
Glenn Anderson at IST to make us of this with a web-based form.
Actions:
- Jane will write up a proposal for an Access system to meet our needs
including dates by which we'd need the web-based form (Sept/99) and the
ability to extract reports from it. (Oct/99) (done)
- Amos will transfer the current Excel database to MISdata on the R: and
Anne and Rose Koebel will have edit permissions. (done)
- Erin will write up an explanation for selectors on where to locate the
current data and how to make use of it.
- Ann will link the UserEd Annual reports and the MIS webpage of out
annual data sorted by date to the Liaison Librarian page.
- Anne will follow-up with Glenn on his approach in case the Systems one
is not ready in time.
- Anne will also get macros set-up for Excel so the 1998/99 data can be
analysed and reported as soon as possible after April 30.
2. KIOSKs
We discussed a concept of a News and Notes section - useful tips for users
which would highlight features of TUGweb, UW resources, database trials
etc. Linda has prepared several examples now on the Davis and Porter
KIOSKS. Other displays include Patron Record, holds and recalls display
and bubbles on the public workstations to explain what is available at
each. Undergrads have missed the point about Reserves being searchable
from TRELLIS.
Action: ??
3. Role of UserEd - postponed to next meeting
4. Holds and Recalls
Web TRELLIS cannot block users from placing request for ineligible items
and users don't understand when to use hold and when to use recall. This
creates a lot of extra work for Circ staff. We explored where we might add
html help in web voyage to address these problems.
Actions:
- Anne and Melanie will meet to review some html pages Anne has created
and follow-up with Charles to see if they can be added to web TRELLIS.
- They will also explore 98.1 release to see if the problem is solved
there.
5. Next Meeting
It is scheduled for April 8. Anne will be at ACRL. Can we meet April 1
instead?
Minute taker: Erin Murphy
