1. Fall Orientation:
a) Fall Brochure:
Reviewed draft. - extra session on ILL/DD and Holds/Recalls will be added
- the CSA session will not be given
- Request a workshop or tour text will be dropped
- the back page will have a chronological list of events
plus URL addresses.
ACTION: Connie: forward ILL session text to Linda Hastings.
Members: review text and forward changes to Jane.
Jane: forward corrections to Linda Hastings.
b)Posters
- completed, 150 will be printed -100 for Federation of Students poster
run plus 50 for Library Representatives.
ACTION: Anne F.: inform Linda Hastings about the 50 posters for Library
Reps.
c)General Tours
About three more Davis general tours will need to be added once the 100
Kinesology classes have been set in August. These tours can not be in the
Brochure but the tour times will be given to the Kin. students and will be
listed on the Today in the Library. These tours can be geared towards
Kinesology student interests.
ACTION: Anne F.: discuss with Yulerette Gordan.
d)Mini-guides
The name will be changed to Guides. Definitions for TRELLIS and TUG will
be added. The Porter guide will be updated in the fall after construction
on the 2nd and 3rd floors is complete.
ACTION: Members: review text for the next meeting.
e)Student Services Tours
There could be as many as 250 students on some of the faculty tours.
The groups will be divided into smaller groups (about 40-50) for
library staff to give quick information about the Libraries. There will be
a meeting later this month with Pam Charbonneau, First Year student
Coordinator and other tour site area representatives.
ACTION: Connie: forward script to members and recruit volunteers for the
Porter tours
Anne F.: recruit volunteers for Davis tours.
f)Website for Orientation Fall'99
ACTION: Members: examine other sites and think about how UW site
should look. Forward site URLs to Ann N.
Ann N.: mount URLs onto the staffweb
2. Maps
Linda Hastings has drafted a handout with directions and maps on how to
get to WLU and U. of Guelph Libraries.
ACTION: Erin & Melanie: will review text and put information into point
form. They will forward changes to Linda.
3. Student Life 101
After discussions with Ann N. Linda Hastings is pulling together images
and text for a display. The bookmarks will be ready for August 9 SL101.
The schedule for the libraries tours and staffing of the booth is almost
complete. Past questions and answers used for SL101 will mounted on the
Undergraduate Information web page.
ACTION: Ann N.: get volunteers for the booth and tours and provide notes
for the tours.
Anne F.: ask Rose Koebel to develop a web page from the Question
and Answers used for past SL101 sessions.
4. International Student Sessions
After reviewing International Student Office comments and e-mails from
Shabiran Rahman, Wendy Macpherson, and Janet Wason, the Davis session will
be reworked. The Dana Porter and UMD sessions will remain similiar to last
year.
The Davis session will be divided into 3 elements:
1. 20-30 minute overview of the Libraries and their services. All students
will attend at once. The group will then be divided into groups of 20.
2. 30 minute hands-on TRELLIS session at the Davis Public workstations and
Hollinger stations. One or two groups will attend this at one time.
3. 30 minute review, of the Davis floorplan, Library of Congress
breakdown, and tour. One or groups will do this while the other groups
are having the TRELLIS session.
Two Davis Librarians will help Wendy Macpherson develop the sessions and
staff will assist in giving the sessions.
ACTION: Erin: 1.confirm the date and time for the sessions with
International Student Office and forward information to Jane
2. inform International Student Office that we need to know
as soon as possible on the tour day how many students will be
attending the Davis session. Staff can then plan for how
many groups have to be accommodated. The Committee would
like feedback from the IS Office soon after the sessions.
5. New Faculty
The Committee will develop and display and handout for FAUW events for new
women Faculty wine and cheese on Sept. 30 and all new Faculty wine and
cheese in Oct./Nov. Post lists of new Faculty for Fall '99 and new
Faculty since SERP on the staffweb.
A notice about Fall Orientation will be placed in FAUW Forum.

6. UserEd support
Rose Koebel will officially give clerical support to the User Education
Committee. This will include booking rooms for sessions; creating a
chronological list of events and sending this to Gazette, Imprint, and UW
radio station, plus posting on UW general and UW library. Also making
Today in the Library signs and developing a Fall orientation website with
guidelines from the Committee.
Additional Agenda:
a) Name change
A new name was discussed and agreed upon. The group would like to be known
as Library Instruction Team (LIT)
ACTION: Anne F.: forward information to Margaret Hendley and them e-mail

b)Library Instruction Workshops Stats form
Glenn Anderson from IST has developed a Stats web form where the entered
data will automatically go into a searchable Excel format (URLs on
handout). Rose Koebel reformated Erin Murphy's notes on how to enter data
into the form.
ACTION: Jane: e-mail Chris Grey about using Access database for
statistics, stating the Committee is still interested and
find out what is the status of the request.
Anne: update on form and form help page next meeting.
c) New member: Another Davis Reference representative is needed on the
Committee.
