Minutes

Present: Margaret Aquan-Yuen (Chair), Lenka Cerny, Linda Hastings, Maureen McCormack (recorder), Doug Morton (Guest), Erin Murphy, Dan Sich, Janet Wason, Melanie Watkins

Absent: Jim Winterbottom

1 Fall Program.

Doug gave some background on the instruction session Smart Teaching Techniques and the group suggested some new strategies that could be incorporated including an information literacy component.

There will again be 4 sessions offered and a second person will be asked to assist.

Dates of the “Keeping up with your Research” session have been finalized:

Thursday, October 11th

Tuesday November 13th

Wednesday December 5th.

Registration will be the first day of the month the course is being offered.

It was suggested that reference to the Web of Science be changed to reflect the broader scope of the database.

Donna Ellis of Trace will be meeting with Anne, Margaret, and Dan to discuss the “Information for Graduate Students” session.

The dates for the International Student Orientation sessions have yet to be finalized. Janet will let us know when and write a new description of the session for the brochure.

The session “Getting Journal Articles and Books not Available at UW Library” will be cancelled.

2. Approval of the minutes of May 1 st, and business arising from that meeting were postponed.

3. Linda showed several designs of the Fall poster.

4. The Brochure will be redesigned in an attempt to organize the sessions in a sequence so that students can take workshops that build on skills taught in previous workshops. For example an undergraduate might take a Tour, Trellis, Find Journal Articles Fast, and Smart Searching Techniques.

5. Dan and Janet will look at updating the Kiosk.

6. Mary Stanley is working on a Web page e-zine, which will include Library news, announcements of new resources, feature articles by Librarians.

7. Members were reminded to notify Rose of their vacation dates.

The remainder of the agenda will be held over until the next meeting in mid June,
