Present: Margaret Aquan-Yuen (Chair), Linda Hastings, Maureen McCormack, Janet Wason, Dan Sich (recorder), Lenka Cerny, Jim Winterbottom

Absent: Melanie Watkins, Erin Murphy

Under item 5 ii – Fall Brochure – Registration Form: Margaret spoke with Marina, changes will be made this week. Dan spoke with Val re. creating an Excel file to be mounted on LINC’s staffweb area.

Under item 5 iii – Fall Brochure – Smart Searching Techniques: Margaret emailed the group; wording not yet finalized.

Under item 5 iv – Fall Brochure – International Students: Janet has consulted ISO.

Under item 6 – E-magazine: Margaret has heard no suggestions to date.

Under item 8 – Kiosk: Porter LINC members and Linda will look at kiosk after today’s meeting to see if display can be moved to elevator. Lenka met with Linda and Melanie to discuss ILL/DD content. The suggestion has been made to place CISTI Source/ILL signage in Porter Libraries. This will later be dealt with in consultation with other groups.

i. Layout and Design (Linda) – Linda distributed new draft of brochure; group made minor changes & corrections, including description of “Keeping Up with Your Research Literature – Electronically”. Margaret and Lenka will work on timing of sessions and room bookings

ii. Smart Searching Techniques – Description will be “Avoid the frustration of either finding too many references or absolutely nothing on your topic. Learn how to develop your search strategies and techniques to find the references you need.” 2 nd paragraph of description will be deleted.

iii. International Students (Janet) – Janet reported that the focus will be on library tours and services. Tuesday, Sept 4 will entail 1 hour commencing at 11 am. After a 20-minute intro by Doug and distribution of brochures, students will be organized into tour groups, potentially 3 groups of 12 for Davis and another group for Porter. Tours will commence around 11:25, then another set of Davis tours commencing at around 11:45/50. On Wednesday, Sept 5, students who have not yet been on a tour will be collected from DC 1302.

iv. Graduate Students – The Graduate Office will not be doing a mail-out in July.

v. Poster & Bookmark (Linda) – Linda displayed new draft of poster and mentioned possible changes to poster and bookmark layout.

vi. Keeping Current – separate brochures will be needed for these sessions.

Janet mentioned ISMC’s attempt to establish guidelines for User Services Supervisors re. answering after-hours reference questions. The feeling is that User Services may be using this brochure to provide users with after-hours TRELLIS help.

Finding Book Reviews (Margaret, incomplete)

Steps to Effective Research (Q: isn’t this the same as the 1 st title in the list?)

Finding Periodical Articles (Erin & Jackie, completed – last updated May 2000)

ii. LINC Annual Report – Margaret is working on this.

iii. Co-op students on work term webpage – Margaret is working on this.

iv. Webpages for Reference Manager and Endnote – Erin should update Margaret regarding progress made on these with Anne.

v. Walking tours on the Web – Linda pointed out that these were currently not a priority.

vi. Tour co-ordination – Melanie will co-ordinate Porter tours, and will give consideration to who in Davis might co-ordinate Davis tours.

vii. Kiosk – Ideas for Fall intro “This Week in the Library” series of displays will appear same as last year. Dan and Janet will meet to discuss sequence of later Fall displays, as well as ideas for later Fall displays. User Services is interested in creating displays for both ILL and CISTI Source. These would be presented one at a time in the Fall, then possibly again in November. It is felt that either User Services or LINC should create a display about connecting to the proxy server/remote access. This will be left for later consideration.
