  1. Minutes of the Meeting of July 2, 2002.
Minutes were passed with minor revisions.

  2. Business Arising
Under July 2 minutes, number 6, Tasks/Responsibilities: Tim will handle the e-zine article.

Under July 2 minutes, number 4, Fall program—tours and workshops—International Student Workshops: Janet reported that these workshops are only held on two Tuesdays at the start of the term (Sept 17 & 24), and not every Tuesday as previously thought. The library orientation for international students will be held in the Flex Lab on October 1st from 4:30 - 6:00 and will include a tour. Registration is required and attendance will be capped in accordance to Flex Lab capacity.

Under July 2 minutes, number 4, Fall program—tours and workshops—Find Journal Articles Fast: Paul has agreed to present the Oct. 1st Science session.

  3. Additional Agenda
Paul's August orientation for incoming students will be item number 9.
The session evaluation form will be item number 10.
    Around the table is 11.

  4. Fall Brochure/Program/Poster
Linda presented two drafts of the fall orientation poster. It was decided that the following phrase should be used with the 'big smarties' background:

    Get smart
    @yourlibrary

Linda will send LINC members copies of the latest draft of the fall brochure.

  5. Kiosk
Melanie and Margaret met with Linda and chose kiosk displays to recycle for fall orientation. Dates & images will be updated.

Dan and Janet will meet with Linda ASAP to choose October displays.

Tim will consider using Davis/Porter displays or display ideas for use in the OLRC.

  6. Webpages—Services for… pages
Helena will assume responsibility for the Undergraduate page. It was felt that the page was in need of some revision. Suggestions included adding something re. evaluating information resources, as well as changing the format from one long 'list' of a page to separate pages linked by a table of contents page. Helena will look at other universities' pages to see what they have done. Dan will maintain responsibility for the Graduate and Faculty & Staff pages.

  7. Statistics
Margaret provided a look at the Library Instruction Workshop Data Form as well as the Library Instruction Workshop Data table. LINC will need to provide Chris Gray with required sort features. It was suggested that an Excel file might be used to obtain the same results. Margaret will take this suggestion to Chris.

Janet will review the page "Guidelines for Filling in the Form".

  8. Tasks list
Margaret distributed the July 22 update of our Tasks list.

  9. Paul's August Orientation
Dan provided an update from Paul regarding the August orientation sessions he will be providing for incoming students. Christy Branston will work with Paul on these, which will occur over the course of two days.

This work will include a follow-up email survey distributed to attendees at last year's sessions put on by the Signage Committee.

This year's session will include an introduction to the library, followed by group work on a small number of Porter and Davis questions. The session will close with a group discussion of how students approached answering the questions. Paul will contact the Registrar's Office to obtain names and email addresses of local high school students who intend to begin studies at UW in the fall.

  10. Evaluation Form
LINC reviewed the graphical evaluation form forwarded by Melanie. It's felt that we should stick to the current incarnation of our evaluation form. There was a question as to whether or not questions 6 (What other library sessions have you taken?) and 7 (What other library sessions do you intend to take?) were necessary. Dan will make a few minor changes (ie. use of check-boxes) to the form and forward it to LINC.

  11. Around the Table
Melanie inquired as to the intended location of the casual employment form on the new library homepage.

Next meeting will be held on August 13th.
