- Business Arising
Linda Hastings requested that plans for Winter Orientation be relayed
to her a couple of weeks in advance of the Holidays so that she can prepare
the displays etc.
#5 Crib Sheet - It was noted that Doug's Searching Journal Indexes document
is for the more experienced user. Janet will forward an email regarding
this. It was suggested that a brochure could be made for each data base.
#6 Brochure for GIS at UMD. Linda not contacted, Linda will contact Eva.
- Update on library promotional material and designs
Linda shared what a small group consisting of Marian Davies, Mary Stanley,
Lauri Strome, Esther Millar and Linda Hastings have been doing. This
group includes people who are involved with promotional outreach and
is working at combining their efforts in order to create a continuity
to the promotions coming from the Library.
The @ your library slogan offerings were plentiful. The outreach group
decided that for this year the slogan will be building knowledge @ your
library. The cheerleading team was contacted and photos will be taken.
These images will be used for Campus Day, Student Life 101 and Orientation.
The LINC members asked if their input will be asked for. Marian and Linda
are both on the committee and will represent the group. Marian wondered
if she was needed and the group encouraged her to continue her membership.
Marian reported that Mary Stanley will be providing a schedule of outreach
events happening this year.
- How Co-op Students Can Assist Link.
The group brainstormed about possible areas where students can assist
LINC
These are some of the ideas:
- International Student Web Site
- Maintain the How Do I area
- Help with power point presentations
- Help with Library Instruction
- Produce a library information CD (use as a gift like Smarties and packaged
candy)
- ELAS Students
The group discussed the students from Conestoga College who need instruction
in library use. These students will be applying to UW. Christy and Laura
passed this on to LINK so that some decisions could be made about the
depth of material to be taught.
Language seems to be one the major barriers met at these sessions. These
groups consist of about 60 students. This seems to be too large of a
group at one sitting. It was suggested that perhaps some type of online
course could be created so that students could work at their own pace.
Dan will talk to a few people about this. The next group is coming Mar.
4, 2 - 3.
- Stats
Melanie passed out stats from 2003 tours and workshops. This will be
discussed at the next meeting.
