Minutes

Present: Helena Calogeridis (chair), Sandra Keys (recorder), Janet Wason, Melanie Watkins

  1. Minutes of the Meeting of August 3, 2004

The minutes were approved with corrections of spelling of names.

  2. Additional Agenda

    No additional agenda items.

  3. Business Arising

    1. Item 5 (Online Registration Form): Helena reported that currently Val Huggan handles responding to registrations manually. Linda was to have spoken with Chris Gray to discuss the possibility of an automatic response, but we were too late for this year. We will invite Chris to a future meeting to discuss this option.

    2. Item 6: Melanie reported that she wrote the script for the Davis Library tour and sent it to Anne Fullerton for her approval. Not having heard from Anne as yet, Melanie will speak with her. Melanie will also ensure that attendants know about the training sessions being held in Davis so as to be able to direct the students to the Conference Room.

It was noted that extra promotion will be needed (and was promised by Linda) for the two new sessions (Using the Web as an aid in research and RefWorks).

  5. FLEX Lab: new hardware and related issues

Some discussion had also taken place earlier as most of the meeting’s attendees had been present at the FLEX Lab orientation the week previous. A general discussion of some of the issues involved with the new technology ensued. It was noted particularly that the logistics of setting up, signing out and in the Tablet PC’s, etc. will be encroaching upon instruction time and that assistants will be very important.

The evaluation forms, especially as they relate to any technology issues, will be especially important this year, so instructors should be reminded to use them. Helena will print the evaluation forms and have them available in her office.
    Action: Helena

  6. Around the Table

    1. Janet and Helena noted that the statistics page for instruction can only be accessed using IE – not Netscape.

    2. Helena noted that registration for the Keep Current sessions is done through IST. With Jackie’s maternity leave, as she has been the liaison between LINC and IST, the IST webpage is incorrect. Helena has asked for update, changes, etc.
      Action:
add to LINC tasks list (Helena)

    3. Helena will speak to Linda about adding the Architecture Library to the Guide to the Libraries page.

    4. UMD is not offering any orientation sessions this year. Melanie suggested contacted Richard Pinnell to see if UMD is still interested in participating in instruction and LINC. Helena will contact Eva first.
