  5. Instruction Links - Helena

To provide awareness of Library Instruction conferences, Helena provided ISR staff with a link to upcoming Instruction conferences. This information can be found at: http://www.emich.edu/public/loex/conferences.html

This link will also be made available on LINC’s webpage
Action : Helena will add the above URL to LINC’s webpage.

  6. Fall Orientation Planning - All

LINC had a discussion about library instruction workshops and ways of increasing library interest in both faculty and students. The Committee would like to see an increase in library workshop attendance and will begin by examining last year’s statistics. Since the actual number of attendees is much lower than pre-registration numbers, LINC would like to assist the students by sending them a reminder email.
Action – Linda will research automatic reply programs.

LINC members further discussed their concerns with low workshop statistics and discussed ways of better reaching the students. It was agreed that speaking to classrooms about library resources during lecture periods would be an effective way of outreaching to a large number of students. Although not many faculty members are willing to share their lecture time with the library staff, there are a number that do. LINC would like to know what characteristics these faculty members have in order to successfully offer our services to others.
Action – Helena will examine in-class library instruction statistics.

LINC discussed online instruction tools and examined ways that the library could offer more information online. One proposal was to visit the CORIL (Cooperative Online Repository for Information Literacy) website and examine whether any resources can be used locally. LINC would also like to provide the Portal with some of UW Library’s resources.
Action : Helena will provide LINC with the URL to CORIL.

Action : Helena will discuss online instructional tools with Susan R

  7. Promotional Issues – Linda

Linda shared her ideas for the Liaison Librarian Posters which will be made available for Fall 2005. Linda also provided LINC with a preview of DC Library’s Electronic Walking Tour and Orientation. Marian Davies is working on an electronic tour for Porter. Linda will work on the Musagetes and the UMD Libraries’ tours next. These tours can be found under “Guides to the Libraries”. A suggestion was made to promote these tours in “News at Your Library” as well as in the “What’s New” section of the main library page.

Linda will be creating a UW campus map that will highlight all of the library buildings. Linda is also working on the Fall Schedule poster and flyer.

Next meeting: Tuesday May 3rd, 2005.
