  1. Minutes of the Previous Meeting (November 1, 2005)
    Approval of minutes deferred to next meeting (Tuesday, February 7, 2006).

  2. Business Arising – none (meeting “abbreviated” due to low attendance)

  3. Google Scholar (guest speaker, Kevin Manuel, Porter ISR Co-op/Intern)
    Kevin wrote a report reviewing the current literature available about the use of/guides for Google Scholar by academic libraries. There appeared to be 4 areas of concentration:
    1. Metadata
    2. Linking Software (e.g., SFX)
    3. Considerations
    4. Alternatives
    With the basic guide that the UW Library will create for using Google Scholar, it is important to note in this guide that Google Scholar is a supplement to the Library’s subscription resources.

  4. 2006 Library Workshop – This brochure is now complete and ready for distribution. Esther Millar and Rose Koebel worked on these. Brochures will be distributed at the respective Info Desks, as well as the GSA Services Day held on Jan.10 in the Davis Centre. The brochure information will also be featured on the Library’s web at http://www.lib.uwaterloo.ca/usered/index.html. Rachel Caldwell will provide a link to this information in the December 15th issue of news @ your library.

  5. LINC Web – The following information has been/will be posted on LINC’s web site:
    1. 2006 Meeting Schedule
    2. The Planning Library Instruction page includes tutorials and anything else that can be stored for instructional purposes
    3. Information and instructional plans from other institutions (to be posted by Helena)

  6. Information Literacy Across Curriculum Conference – Helena will provide a full report to this at the next LINC and ISR meetings. She attended three, online sessions from diverse speakers that provided an institutional approach to information literacy.  

  7. Goals for 2006:
    1. Produce Google Scholar Library Guide
    2. Review current lessons/instruction and venues
