1. Minutes of Previous Meeting
- The minutes were approved with minor modifications.
2. Business Arising
- Item 4: Sandra still needs to follow-up with CNAC regarding the Library Instruction Session User Survey.
3. Additional Agenda
4. Housekeeping
- All agreed that the next LINC meeting will be held on Tuesday, August 29th instead of the first Tuesday in September. Christy Branston will be a guest speaker at this meeting. She will discuss recent developments with her research involving bibliographic gaming. It was mentioned that LINC should organize for other presentations, such as what Carol Stephenson and Jackie Stapleton have done with UW ACE.
- The LINC Task List needs to be reviewed and updated accordingly. We will discuss this at a future meeting.
5. Fall Workshop Schedule Update
- Everything is in place in terms of instructors, assitants, bookings, etc. for the 2006 Fall Workshops. Dan Sich and Christy Branston will introduce a new session pertaining to Web 2.0 resources. Anne and Jackie have changed their Keeping Current workshop format – they are now offering two 30 minute sessions per month for interested students. It was asked if Dan and Christy will present their workshop to interested ISR staff. Action: Sandra will speak to Jackie Stapleton to see if the ISR Training Committee could arrange for Christy and Dan to present their workshop.
6. PR & Advertising Updates
- Rachel is in the process of sending out Workshop Brochures and Bookmarks to all grad offices, residence managers, and branch libraries. She is following the procedures Rose used in previous years. Cheryl Kieswetter sent a package out for New Faculty Day. It was asked what was sent out in the Winter – since nothing has been done in the past, this will need to be revisited. It was also asked if we participate with Grad Research Day. Action: Laurie is going to check who our contact is for Grad Research Day.
- Student Life/FEDS Plasma Screen – Rachel will send LINC Workshop info to be advertised on the Plasma Screen installed in the SLC. With the current system run by FEDS, the amount of information advertised is limited.
- Tim’s Screen Advertising Idea – Information created using PowerPoint or Viewlet Builder would advertise various LINC workshops would continuously run on a screen (portable/plasma/etc). This item will need to be revisited. Action: Tim will borrow UML’s screen and System’s projector to see how this would work on the main floors in the Porter and/or Davis Libraries.
7. Other Misc. Updates
- Podcasting: Rachel will be attending a meeting with Systems later this morning to discuss equipment and support needed.
- UW ACE: Looking into creating a repository of instructional items using UW ACE 7.1 (available this fall). It would also be nice to generate a list of who is doing what in terms of instruction (projects, expertise, etc.). Action: Rachel and Sandra will set up a blog for this purpose.
- ViewletBuilder: Systems is looking into acquiring and installing this software in the near future. For information about using ViewletBuilder, a report has been created by Marian Davies and Barbara Menich.
- RefWorks: Tim is working on a help page that will combine all helpful information (tutorials, library guides, etc.) pertaining to RefWorks.
- Information Literacy Seminar: Sandra will share more information about this soon.
8. Conference Report
- Anne will discuss the ALA Conference she attended (in June) at our next meeting.
9. Goal Setting: Think and Dream BIG!
- Items brainstormed at the meeting are available here. Our next task is to sort these items into short, medium, and long-term categories.
10. Around the Table
- No items to report at this time.
