  1. Minutes of Previous Meeting
The minutes of the meeting of February 6th, 2007 were approved with corrections.

  2. Update/Report Items
    1. Co-op Projects – Yetian
Yetian provided a summary of the current projects he is working on. They include:
      1. an instructional webpage on ‘how to create Viewlet Builders’.
      2. creating specific Viewlet tutorials (i.e. TRELLIS tutorials)
      3. creating and editing library webpages
      4. gaming project

Yetian demonstrated a Viewlet tutorial that he had created. He also illustrated that sound and recorded voice-overs can be incorporated into a tutorial.

    2. YouTube Proposal – Tim
Tim brought forward a proposal to LINC to incorporate YouTube as a gateway to LINC- sponsored library instruction sessions. YouTube technology would be used to provide library users with a ~3-minute video teaser promoting an upcoming library instruction session. If successful, similar technology may be used in the future to record an entire library session.

LINC is supporting this initiative and members have provided Tim with several suggestions on how to get started. Several factors were discussed, including costs, group and individual approval and involvement, as well as the location of the video itself.
Action: Tim will approach several library departments and groups for approval and recommendations.

  3. Decision Items
    1. LINC Requests - Sandra
LINC discussed ways of responding to requests more effectively. Should there be one person dedicated to responding to or forwarding requests/questions that are received via LINC’s email alias? It was suggested that a form be mounted on LINC webpages that would automatically detail some of the information such as the page url and description. With this content available it will be easier to forward the request to the appropriate person.
Action: Sandra will inquire about adding forms to the LINC webpages.

    1. Google Scholar Guide – Sandra
Several months ago Helena started working on a Google Scholar guide and the question was put forward whether such a guide is still necessary since Google Scholar has been out for a while now, and whether Helena should continue with it. LINC discussed Google Scholar and the benefits of creating a Library Guide for it and had agreed that a guide would be valuable.
Action: Sandra will contact Helena and ask her to complete the guide.

  4. Discussion Items - Sandra
    1. Terms of Reference
The Terms of Reference for LINC have not been examined nor looked at for a while. There are areas that need to be re-focused and re-written. LINC needs to spend some time considering and re-defining some of its goals and objectives. The new Communications Librarian will play a large role in communications, outreach and promotion and it was considered by the Committee to best wait for this individual before the Terms of Reference are examined and re-written.

  5. Around the Table
Rachel showed member the newly printed library poster which will be displayed for Gradfest and Campus Day. T-shirts have also been printed for library volunteers assisting with Gradfest.

Next Meeting : Tuesday April 3rd, 2007.
