Minutes

Present:  Eva Dodsworth, Anne Fullerton, Sandra Keys, Nancy Collins, Pauline Dewan, Marian Davies, and Leeanne Romane (recorder)

Welcome to Pauline Dewan, co-op student in Porter ISR.

  1. Approval of Minutes of Meeting held October 1, 2008
    1. Approved
    2. Action: Sandra will send all 2008 minutes to Rose for mounting on LINC website.

  2. Business Arising

  4. Update/Report Items
    1. Planning the instruction sessions for Winter 2009 needs to start
      1. Action: Sandra will book FlexLab times (she will base the schedule on last Winter’s bookings)
    2. Question about whether LINC would provide any PRIMO sessions
      1. Action: Sandra will book rooms to accommodate potential PRIMO sessions
      2. Action: Sandra will send the Trellis ppt to Nancy Collins, to see how Nancy can incorporate PRIMO into the existing session.
    3. Anne suggested the group look at Cornell’s 1 minute mini-sessions that are posted on YouTube

  5. Decision Items
    1. LINC evaluations
      1. LINC instructors will meet to debrief. This will be conducted as a group session, with individual topic breakout groups that then report back to the group as whole.
    2. Should door be locked during sessions?
      1. This was brought up as a way to curb disruptions during the session.
      2. Action: this will be discussed during Instructors Meeting (mentioned above)
    3. Request that reminder emails include a link that allows recipients to quickly cancel or confirm their registration in a session
      1. Action: Sandra will verify whether the text in the reminder can be customized to include a link, and possibly a statement such as “Come early to ensure a seat”
    4. Design of reports
      1. Would like to see Attendance numbers, breakdown by faculty, and content and teaching style.
    5. LINC Retreat, early December 2008
      1. A retreat was discussed, which would consist of a ½ day Instructors Meeting, and potluck lunch.
      2. Action: Leeanne and Anne will plan this retreat.

  6. Online Tutorial Proposal
    1. Laura Howell followed up with her tutorial proposal
      1. Revisions were suggested
      2. Suggested that a webpage and wiki be created
      3. Proposal will be sent to Jennifer Haas (group’s administrator)
      4. Proposal will be sent to Allan Bell, regarding technology options
      5. Final proposal will be sent to ISR members

  7. Discussion Items
    1. Syracuse site as good example of library instruction site
      1. Renaming, lesson plans, template options
        1. Move from tool specific to task/user specific
      2. Action: Nancy Collins will look at the site and report back to the group with ideas for how to repackage our instruction information.

  8. Around the Table
    1. Marian would like to investigate discussions on drop-in sessions.
      1. Action: Marian will write up ideas and send out to LINC for next meeting
    2. Anne reported she taught from a concept map for the first time (instead of using ppt)
      1. Action: Anne will send out the map she used to LINC members
    3. Nancy would like to review promotion items from Fall term
      1. Action: Anne will talk to Jeffrey regarding his skill with Excel and how he can help Nancy
    4. Sandra would like to encourage feedback from instruction sessions
