1. Minutes of Previous Meeting

The minutes of the meeting of February 4th were approved.

2. Business Arising

Sandra will be meeting with Mary to discuss the committee’s terms of reference. She will bring back the results of the discussion for LINC’s discussion and/or approval at the next meeting. Some discussion took place as to who should actually be responsible for LINC’s terms of reference. As an instruction committee, and no longer a communication and outreach committee, LINC agreed that Mary’s role should no longer include affiliation with LINC.

Action : Sandra will have discussion with Mary and provide LINC with the recommended changes to the terms of reference.

Action : Sandra will determine who Mary’s official replacement will be

Sandra had asked committee members to think about possible new members to replace those that are leaving. Sandra would like the May meeting to include current members as well as new members. Both Sandra and Anne will be leaving LINC in May. A new chair will need to be selected.

The committee decided to offer LINC sessions again this Spring as last year’s proved successful. Statistics show that most attendees participate in sessions that are offered near the beginning of the term, so sessions will be offered starting mid-May.

A discussion took place regarding the importance of information literacy skills across campus. All students, faculty and staff need to know how to find information and librarians should make the effort to use all opportunities to teach and promote information literacy to them. Ensuring that librarians are information literate themselves is critical and encouraging them to consider an imbedded literacy approach could increase skills IL knowledge across campus. LINC discussed organizing an information literacy journal club that would meet over lunch on a monthly basis to discuss literature related to IL. LINC is also planning on hosting a half day IL retreat in the summer.

ACTION : Anne will come up with a date in April to have the first journal article reading session.

There were none.
