    #2 Updates, Recognition and Commendation

Mark reported that he has not seen an official agenda for the OC UL Forum planned for Dec 7-9, but will advise Managers as soon as it is received.

  2. Updates, Recognition and Commendation

Catherine Steeves, the new Associate University Librarian, Information Technology Services, started at Guelph last week and met with TOMG this week. A discussion paper from Bob Rae is now available on the web: http://www.raereview.on.ca/en/involved/
workbook.asp? loc1=involved&loc2=workbook and Mark encouraged everyone attending to review the documents.

  3. Cultural Change in Davis

Jim reviewed the task group’s recommendations. Sharon and Jim asked Managers for their comments.

    Some revisions:

    • change “sanctions” to “consequences”
    • third box – make two bullets

Davis staff will receive this chart as part of an information package at Thursday and Friday’s Cultural Change sessions. These orientation sessions will be set up to first discuss the design of the Davis library and the environment that was intended and is in fact happening in the Davis library and then to discuss the cultural changes and pro active approach to making these changes.

The Goals of these sessions are:

    • Promote the ‘new’ environment to staff
    • Introduce the cultural change guidelines as a positive policy that encourages respect for others in a research and study environment
    • Describe the consequences of behaviours that do not respect such an environment
    • Provide procedural information about the role and responsibility of staff in supporting the new environment
    • Engage staff in a discussion about their role
    • Gauge staff response to the guidelines and procedures and their willingness to encourage Davis users to respect the guidelines
    • Emphasize that now more than ever we (staff) need to be positive role models

Action : Mark and Susan R. will add this as an agenda item when planning their next meeting with student leader representatives.

  4. Opportunity for all Managers to meet Davis ISR department head candidates – Susan R.

There was discussion of the idea of providing Managers with an opportunity to meet the candidates for the Head of Davis ISR. Some interest was expressed. It was noted that providing such an opportunity may cause some candidates to withdraw if they wish to keep their candidacy confidential. Susan will notify Managers when plans are finalized.

  5. Managers Meetings
    • Mark presented the new meeting schedule
    • Minutes: Managers felt that the minutes are detailed and useful
    • Agenda planning – send out agenda Thursday by noon and include all attachments - on a rotating basis, the third Tuesday of every month each manager will take a turn at department updating.
