  1. Events

    Past events:

    South Campus Hall (SCH) –

    • Laurie coordinated the Library’s information booth outside of the Book Store in SCH on one date in January.
    • Unlike last term, we did not bring the large display this time. Instead, we sat behind the table which we furnished with a tablecloth, an 11x17 poster, buttons, bookmarks, and Smarties. Laurie reported that this set-up was more relaxed and that students felt comfortable approaching the table.
    • We encouraged students to sign up for the Library’s workshops.
    • We brought a laptop to show students the Library’s website. Laurie suggested that we get a lazy susan to make working with the laptop easier at future information booths.
    • The group agreed to continue running the information booth at SCH. Laurie will schedule another day/time for us to hold an information booth in SCH for after March break.
    • Nancy will let librarians know about this initiative and ask for one librarian volunteer for the March date.

Student Services Fair –

  • This event was held in the SLC.
  • Laurie reported it was not as busy as in previous years.
  • We had plenty of staff who volunteered to staff the Library’s booth, with 3 people scheduled for each shift.

Upcoming events:

March Break Open House –

  • Scheduled for March 12 & 13 from 9:30-3:30.
  • Laurie will coordinate volunteers – aiming for 1-2 student casuals and 1 library staff member per shift.
  • Jamie will check with Alex to see if student staff can assist again.

Valentine’s Day –

  • Sara suggested that we run an activity along the theme of “why do you love the library” where students can write on heart-shaped paper why they love the library or what “library love” is to them. Hearts will be available at the service desks (or other locations, to be determined) along with our usual “library love” buttons. The hearts will then be displayed within the Library’s spaces.
  • Nancy will get approval for this idea from Annie and Alex.
  • Sara will design the paper heart template.
  • Laurie will look into markers and adhesive.
  • Nancy will find coloured paper for DP and DC.
  • Once the template has been created and printed, Jamie will coordinate with casual Circulation staff to cut the hearts.
  1. Incentives.
    • Following up on the incentives discussion from last meeting, Nancy met with Retail Services to discuss custom orders for incentives/gifts. She presented the group with a variety of possible incentives, including mugs, notebooks, bookmarks, bags, and more.
    • The group provided feedback on the various items, expressing interest in these items:
      • Black mug with the Library’s wordmark
      • White mugs with the Library’s wordmark on one side and a graphic of a goose with the text “even a goose can google… learn more at your library lib.uwaterloo.ca” on the other side.
      • A notebook with the goose graphic/text.
      • Pens with the Library’s wordmark.
      • Book bags.
      • USB keys (higher-end gift)
      • Bookmarks (higher-end gift)
    • Nancy will follow up with Creative Services to see about creating a goose graphic and will pursue purchasing within this fiscal year.
