Davis Centre Library Design Project

The Library's Problem:

students have trouble negotiating the Davis Library without assistance, due to poor site-lines and a layout that is not intuitive

The Issue:

The Davis Library needs a signage system.  Current signage is a haphazard array that generally is inadequate in serving library users - see web-site:

The Constraints:
  1. different types of signs we need
    • permanent location
      • information is also permanent (e.g. identification signs, such as departments, collections, facilities, floor maps)
      • information changes, such as current library hours
      • instructional
    • temporary location
      • such as event announcements, security alerts
  2. signs should be free of library jargon, negative language, condescending tone
