How did you locate the Dana Porter Library?
Went to my university file folder and found the map
Asked a student on campus once I had parked (3)
I've visited several times before and knew my way around campus
Asked a student on campus
I asked someone.. Now I know it's the tallest building
From the campus map received in the mail
It's the tallest building on campus (3)
I followed the UW Map (14)
Campus tour during student life 101(4)
Told by a friend how to get here
My father went here so he knows the campus (2)
I asked for directions at the visitors centre
Campus map online
Did you have to ask for directions?
7 yes (22%)
24 no (75%)
1 non response
If you had any difficulties, please explain
I just didn't know where the library was on campus- but once I knew it
was easy to find
I drove round the ring road expecting a sign
While I didn't have any difficulties I was surprised that neither tour
of the two campus tours I've been on brought students into the library.
No, after I was told it was quite easy to find
Too many buildings, I'm confused
No signage to direct you around construction
Entrance was hard to find
I had no difficulties, it was just my first time here
No, there was construction, I wouldn't walk through
I didn't have any difficulties because the map and my mom basically helped
me
I didn't understand how to follow the directions of the call number
Parking- not sure where to park.. my car ended up in lot C
Did you have to ask?
8 yes (25%)
20 no (63%)
4 did not respond
If yes, where did you ask?
Front desk
Information desk (6)
Asked a lady in the library
If yes, where were the signs located?
In front of the elevator (25)
I looked in the computer and typed in the call #
Front door, where hours of operation are; got confused with reference
collection on main floor
"To get you started"-front entrance; then looked at the floor plans
on the elevator
when you get off the elevators; sign tells you what floor to go
to
Well, we had to ask in order to find out what floor our books were
on. Then I just wandered through the shelves looking for the number.
Signs were on the sides of shelves
If yes, where did you ask?
Front desk
I was looking in the wrong place and I got a little hint
But the info desk lady was explaining it to us
Info desk- I needed help to get to the signs
If you had any difficulties, please explain
We typed in the call #, and we couldn't find it on trellis
I didn't find the sign until the 9th floor because I
took the stairs
No difficulty in reaching floor once I knew where to go.
Wasn't sure on how to figure out which floor. By chance happened
to see sign by elevator- fairly intuitive
Just going to the wrong floor because I scanned the sign
Call # didn't show up
The sign by the elevator contained some very relevant information.
Is there any place in the library where it appears more prominent?
I had none, it was just that I remained on the 1st floor
and didn't look at the signs near the elevators
No, it was clear
The info desk lady pointed us to the sign by the elevator which
was very helpful
None - under 5 min.
Did you have to ask for help?
Yes 2 (6%)
No 28 (89%)
No response 2
Is there a group study room on this floor?
Yes 19 (59%)
No 12 (38%)
No response 1
Is it to the left of the elevators, orange curtains on the windows?
Group study tables- I don't think there is a specific room (3)
One in each corner, like 3-4 in total-more?
If you had any difficulties, please explain
The signs need to be clearer in terms of floors and call numbers
The signs need to be bigger, with basic definitions
The signs need to have basic english identification
I just needed to be pointed in the right direction. I was fine after
that.
I know that books may be reserved and renewed online but I was unaware
of any other options besides the self-checkout & circulation for
signing out books
Remembering what floor the main floor was
There were no signs telling us, so we asked one of the Library patrons
who was getting on the elevator
I got lost looking for the main lobby
What floor we started on
How did you locate the Book Return?
The big sign above it (2)
Sign (12)
Clearly marked on the way in (3)
Looked around- No signs, what is circulation/reserves, controlled access?
Looking around circulation (1)
Assumed it would be by check out counter
I knew from before
I knew it would be near the doors (2)
By "trial and error" - I assumed that it had to be on the
main floor
Saw the book return box and asked the lady at the front desk
Looked at the blue map
If you had any difficulties, please explain
Need bigger signs
Need colourful signs
No large/bright signs
I never saw a "book bin"
I'm not sure if there is anywhere else to return books

Yes, with trouble
No signage at all
It was harder to find the women's - I thought they would be closer
together

It was hidden by user service staff
