Recover files in "library"

The "recover" command on a computer backed up by the campus backup server "hoover" allows one to browse, select and recover files and directories. To recover files in the "library" web server, follow these steps:

  1. Enter "recover" at the unix prompt. You will be able to view backed-up files in "hoover"..
  2. Change directory to where a file is to be recovered, e.g., "cd /staff/systems". Enter "ls" or "ls -l" to view the list of files.
  3. If you like to recover from a specific date, use the command "changetime", e.g., "changetime June 29".
  4. Use the "add" command to mark file to be recovered, e.g., "add filename.html".
  5. Enter "recover" to retrieve the file. This may take a little while.
  6. When the transfer is finished, you will be asked to overwrite or rename. Type R to rename
the restored file; you'll end up with "filename.R".
  7. Enter "quit" to exit the "recover" online.

Find out more on "recover" by entering "man recover | more" at the UNIX prompt.
