Recover files in "library"
The "recover" command on a computer backed up by the campus backup server "hoover" allows one to browse, select and recover files and directories. To recover files in the "library" web server, follow these steps:
- Enter "recover" at the unix prompt. You will be able to view backed-up files in "hoover"..
- Change directory to where a file is to be recovered, e.g., "cd /staff/systems". Enter "ls" or "ls -l" to view the list of files.
- If you like to recover from a specific date, use the command "changetime", e.g., "changetime June 29".
- Use the "add" command to mark file to be recovered, e.g., "add filename.html".
- Enter "recover" to retrieve the file. This may take a little while.
- When the transfer is finished, you will be asked to overwrite or rename. Type R to rename
the restored file; you'll end up with "filename.R".
- Enter "quit" to exit the "recover" online.
Find out more on "recover" by entering "man recover | more" at the UNIX prompt.
