Voyager 2001.1 upgrade plan
In light of the recently announced Dec. 23 UW closure, Charles reported
that plans for the Dec. 19-23 Voyager 2001.1 upgrade would be reviewed at
the Dec. 10th TOMG meeting. Of primary concern is
the level of IST support available on the weekend of Dec. 21-22. Wilfrid
Laurier is also closed after Dec. 20th. The final confirmation
of the system’s integrity and functionality would be done by Charles
and the Guelph prototypers on the Monday morning. Other issues TOMG will
assess are the results of the prototypers’ testing of the preview
clients and the software distribution plan at each institution since the
client upgrade on staff workstations is more complex than in previous upgrades.
Alternative upgrade dates were considered. If December is not possible, Jan. 2-6 was preferred but the essential IST staff will not be available at that time. Since the backdating bug fix is a priority for TUG Circulation, the second weekend in January (Jan. 9-13) might be an acceptable fall-back date. Moving to an earlier date in December (e.g. start on Dec. 17th or 18th) would be difficult because exams do not end until Dec. 20th. The end of the Winter term would be acceptable if not for the backdating problem.
Further discussion about the upgrade included the following:
[Note: At its Dec. 10th meeting, TOMG affirmed the upgrade plan and is proceeding with the Dec. 19-23 dates.]
2001.1 Prototyping results
The testing results of the UW Prototypers were summarized:
Prototypers have found no functional red flags that would cause the upgrade to be postponed.
WebVoyage 2001.1
Dan has worked with a group of fourteen people from ISR and the Colleges
to evaluate the new WebVoyage features and provide input to the TUG OPAC
group's decisions about implementation. "Bookbag" and "Combining
Searches" will be implemented. "Search Preferences" and "Saved
Searches" will not be implemented at this time. Another new feature
on WebVoyage is the ability to locally configure additional "Save"
formats, including EndNote Citation.
Dan demonstrated the new Web Voyage features.
Dan referred the group to the PR page that describes the new features and links to the prototype.
The TUG OPAC group is considering changing the main TRELLIS search page to compress the Help information and place it near the top of the page. This would not be for Dec. 23rd but might be implemented later. A prototype is available. Dan welcomes our comments.
Charles reported that a broader topic of WebVoyage revitalization will be tabled at TOMG and, if this goes ahead, TUG OPAC would be a major player. This might include the introduction of features such as style sheets and pop-up boxes.
Next meeting
The next meeting was tentatively scheduled for February, unless issues arising
warrant an earlier meeting. Linda will confirm the date in January.
Future agenda topics: TRELLIS upgrade post mortem, VDX ILL demo (Alex), Reports (Linda & Gail)
