upgrade.

Voyager 2000.1: Reporter needs Access 2000.
Server balancing to monitor load
-
A planned split of
WebVoyage to spread the server load is going well.
- Wilfrid Laurier continues
to experience severe network connectivity problems. Seems to be a Laurier campus
problem.
Cost Sharing
- TOMG has been reviewing the cost sharing formula for TUG services and has
reached agreement on the future cost sharing measures to be recommended to the
University Librarians.
Budget Proposal for 2001/02 fiscal year
- TOMG continues to work on a budget proposal for 2001/02 for the Steering
Committee. The proposal is due mid December 2000.

Acquisitions Report
- Most aspects of Acquisitions
have been tested.
- No real showstoppers.
- At present, Acquisitions Functional Group members are noticing that the preview
software is VERY buggy.
- Invoicing problem has been reported to Endeavor and they are working
on a patch to the production system to incorporate the changes we have
requested.
- Training scheduled
for December 12 and 13, 2000 (12th - Guelph, 13th - Waterloo).
Cataloguing
- Hasn't changed much - just looks different.
- All fixed fields expand
more than you may want them to.
- Can now see Acquisitions records from Cataloguing module.
- Betty has not looked at the tag tables yet.
- New Acquisitions profile
will need to be created in Acquisitions for Cataloguing staff to be able to
view Acquisitions data. Should be made in week of December 18th
Circulation
- Not much different functionally, just visually.
- Content is the same.
- Session preferences
are now retained from one session to the next - must remember that session
preferences are for one specific PC and do not move with you if you sign
onto another PC.
Reserves
Routing Slips - No known changes, but Alex will confirm.
OPAC
TUG OPAC members are asking for input on two questions:
- Self Registration Page
- New form on the University of Waterloo Library home page under What's
New entitled Self Registration.
- This form is there to receive three additional pieces of information
that we aren't receiving from the Registrar's Office: 1) Barcode number,
2) User email, 3) Name release.
- This form can be used by the Colleges as well.
- Short Term Loans
-
New request type designed
for material which cannot be loaned for more than one day.
- Allows patron to place hold on an item for a specific hour of the day.
- St. Jerome's would
like to use this request type in a small pilot for video bookings sometime
in January 2001.
- The request is enabled
by patron group, but restricted by items with a policy group.
- Few things still remain to be tested.
- Other libraries may be interested in this feature in the future.
- E-Reserves Update
- There are still some hardware issues outstanding. Carl has ordered
some of the necessary parts, but they have not arrived yet.
- Alex needs to know how to reduce file sizes, since some of the Instructors
could submit files of 100 megabytes or larger.
- He will need to think
this through with some Systems people.
- GLUGM Update
Charles and Debbie commented on their attendance at GLUGM. Overall, the experience
was a good one, with many worthwhile sessions offered. Full reports from GLUGM
are available from Linda Teather, Debbie Tytko or Charles Woods.
- Other
EDI with Finance
- Gail and Debbie both spoke about the success of the EDI Finance/Library
Project, which went live November 6th, 2000.
- As a result of the EDI Finance/Library project, staff of the Library
Acquisitions Unit are using impromptu web reports created by IST for invoicing,
vendor searches.
TRACE
- Linda reported that she is continuing to work with TRACE. They have
been successful in mocking up both WebVoyage and Self Charge on one public
workstation.
- Dave Kibble continues
to work with TRACE regarding hardware requirements.
Renison College
- Linda reported that Lois Clifford has been looking at self charge
as an option for use when she is out of the library. She has decided not to
use it at this time.
