- Volunteer to record
Linda volunteered to record.
- Additional agenda
There was no additional agenda.
- Voyager 2000.1 upgrade timeline review
Linda distributed a very abbreviated upgrade timeline. For a detailed version,
see http://www.lib.uwaterloo.ca/~lmteathe/trellis2000.html
The Prototyping Team and functional
groups are beginning the evaluation of new and basic software functionality,
with their final report to the TRELLIS Operational Management Group (TOMG)
due by November 30th. A final 'go/no go' decision will be made by TOMG
on December 5th. The current plan is to take TRELLIS down at 6:00
p.m. on December 14th and activate the backup catalogue and Offline
Charge or a manual backup system for circulation at that time. Expectation
is that the upgraded system would be available on December 18th for
the Prototyping Team to confirm functional stability and data integrity early
in the morning and be back in regular production around mid-morning.
- Brief demos of the 2000.1 preview clients
Brief demos of the 2000.1 preview systems were given by Debbie (Acquisitions),
Betty (Cataloguing), Alex (Circulation) and Charles (WebVoyage).
Issues identified for investigation
were:
- Cataloguing: is Z39.50 search across multiple databases enabled in 2000.1?
- Circulation: what is the "Distribution" function?
A test version of the 2000.1 WebVoyage is available at http://www.voytest.uwaterloo.ca . This is TUG's copy of the preview WebVoyage software pointing to the preview database in Chicago. Response time will be slow.
Any 'Pilot' who wants to see more of Cataloguing, Circulation or Acquisitions
should contact Betty, Alex or Debbie. The preview staff clients are also loaded
on the PCs in the Davis Conference room, Porter 428 and at the Systems Help
Desk in Porter 512 and can be used in any of these locations. (ID/password for
all clients is demo/demo.)
- Around-the-table functional updates
Debbie: - The revised 'go live'
date for the TRELLIS/Finance electronic transfer of invoice data is November
6th.
- Debbie and Charles
will be attending the Great Lakes User Group meeting on October 19-20. If there
is an issue anyone wants them to explore, contact them by Wednesday.
Charles:
- TUG public OPAC use
has been all WebVoyage since early September. We have already reached peak usage,
earlier than last year, and servers l1 and lap3 are being hit hard. Response
time has remained acceptable but Charles and IST are preparing to set up web
servers on all three application servers in order to split the load. Anyone
doing anything with a heavy load on the system (e.g. authority load, report
generation), should contact Charles and try to schedule it during non-peak hours.
Gail:
- Acquisitions 2000.1
permits the use of fund codes. Acquisitions units should consider the creation
of these 8-10 digit codes to benefit from this feature.
Lois:
- Reserves has been
implemented at Renison.
- A public workstation
has been set up so that users at Renison no longer need a Polaris account to
access TRELLIS.
- Information about Offline Charge is needed before the upgrade. Lois
will contact Melanie Watkins for information and Carolyn will give Lois
a sample of the manual form used at St. Jerome's. It was noted that, unless
circulation activity is heavy, a manual backup system will probably be
the preferred alternative.
Linda (for Verna):
-
TRACE is still aiming
for a November 'go live' with Circulation. Linda will contact Dave regarding
progress on the required hardware (scanners, receipt printers) and public workstation
set up (WebVoyage and Self Charge on one PC with Alt/Tab to toggle between windows?).
- Next meeting
Monday, November 13th, 2:00-3:30 p.m., Porter 428
