Notes from meeting of July 17, 2002

Present: Helena Calogeridis; Doug Morton (chair); Paul St-Pierre; Carol Steele (recorder); Marina Wan.

Proxy & related issues:
-Doug will ask Chris Gray for text link to home page.
-useful addition: patron logging on gets asked to indicate their affiliation to uw, freetext not radio buttons.
-Marina suggested making to-do list re Proxy problems. Doug will send out email to tell people to send EZProxy problems to Marina.
-Doug will add to VR page list of databases that work/don't work
-Doug will talk to Jenny Marvin re speed problems since UG now has adopted latest version of LSSI.
-Charles knows about response time problems - has copies of Traceroots logs.

Discussed possibility of starting service with chat only:
-client not getting transcript of session; librarian is getting session transcript: Doug has reported this problem to LSSI: waiting to hear back.
-Can we request the older version of software? To be considered after Doug talks to Jenny.

If we go live with current problems:
Scenario 1: replace library homepage with something else, like "coming soon" message.
Scenario 2: chat plus limited escort, excluding restricted resources (avoids EZProxy problems).

  5. Email problems exorcized. Doug
  6. Marketing ready. Paul to talk to Mary Stanley
Group reviewed Helena's "Ask a Librarian" mockup; suggestions made.

Paul has instructions for recovering your crashed session (librarian side); Doug will add to VRIG page.
