Editing ssi's

To find the SSI that you want to edit, click on the Choose button choose button on the same line as the address bar. If the web page that's currently opened in the browser uses ssi's then there should be a directory called ssi. Open the file you want to edit.

Most ssi directories contain 3 files:

contactinfo.html

This file contains for contact information (either individual or group) for the web page.

If you get a script error when you open this file, it means it contains the antispam email script. Simple click "No" in response to the question "Do you want to continue running scripts on this page?" The page will open and you can edit the content that is not part of the email script. You will not be able to see or change the emails.

To change the email address, contact a member of WebOps who will be happy to do this for you.

sec_navbar.html

This file contains the right navigation or quick links for the web page.

Establishing the correct link for items in the right navigation can be tricky.

Note the file structure for the faq directory and the location of the sec_navbar.html file within the ssi subdirectory.

file structure for faq directory

When the browser reads a file with an ssi, it inserts the code into the file. So the browser doesn't point to the sec_navbar.html file, rather it inserts the code as though it was always part of the file.

If you are viewing the access.html file and select the right navigation entry to take you to the anchors.html file, both files are located on the same level. When you create the relative link, all you need is the filename for the link and the browser will find it.

Contribute wants to include ../ (which means go up one level) in the link because it sees that the sec_navbar.html is sitting in a lower directory (ssi). Contribute isn’t smart enough to know how the ssi is supposed to work, so you have to correct it when you set the link properties. Just remove the ../ (I've highlighted it in blue after the HREF.)

Setting the link for the ssi

If you’re not seeing a place where you can remove the ../ that isn’t required, on the “Insert Link” menu, click on the “Advanced” button.

topictitle.html

This file contains the information located in the coloured bar. Simply enter the required text. The css file will assign the appropriate style.
