The Library has two web sites :
Each site has its own look that is controlled by templates (UWlib and UWlibstaff), server-side include statments (ssi's), and cascading style sheets (css).
The templates have been designed so that every page in our web sites point to its site-wide css file and ssi statements. These css files control the look of the file by assigning fonts, font sizes, appearance of headings, appearance of tables, etc. These ssi files provide the search, library identification, and left navigation for every file.
The templates also point to directory-specific ssi statements and css files. These ssi files provide the topic title (coloured bar), right navigation, and contact information for individual areas. If you require a specialized style, this can be included in your own css file.
Therefore, you will find the site-wide css and ssi directories at the top level of each of the web sites, but you'll also find that every directory in our web site has its own css and ssi subdirectories. These subdirectories contain the following files:
Becuase you are not able to create the css files via Contribute, when you are setting up a new directory, contact Esther Millar (or another member of WebOps) to set this up for you.
To see the site structure via Contribute, select
the "Choose" button in the top right corner of the Contribute window. [Does not show up when you are in edit mode.]

When you link to an image or a non-web file (.doc, .xls, .ppt) on your computer (not in the web site), Contribute automatically creates a subdirectory called images or documents, as appropriate, and copies the file into that directory. These subdirectories do not require the css and ssi files because they do not require the templates.
