How to Upload a File

To upload a file that is not in html format (e.g., Excel, Word document) from your computer to the web site you have two options.

If you wish to create a link to a file (that currently resides on your hard drive) from an existing page, use Option 1.

If you want to upload the file, but are not linking to it yet, use Option 2.

Option 1:

Highlight the text that should be linked.

Insert Link buttonThen on the menu bar, click on the Insert Link button and select the last option "File on my computer. . ."

On the following screen, fill in the box beside "File to link to".

Insert Link screen

If you do not know the path to the file on your computer, click on the Browse button and find the intended file. Choose Select. Then click on OK.

When you "Publish" the page, Contribute will automatically upload the file to the web site. Contribute copies the file to a subdirectory called "Documents" which is under the directory  the file you are editing resides. If a "Documents" directory does not exist yet, it will automatically create it for you.

Option 2:

In Contribute, click "File" on the menu bar and select "Publish File from My Computer...".

You will be prompted to select a file on your computer.  Double click the file, or highlight the file and click "Select".

Next, you will be prompted to select the web site to which you wish to send your file. Click "OK" after you have made your selection.

Select website

The "Publish New Page" window will appear.  You now need to choose the folder where you want the file to be saved to. Click on "Choose Folder".

In the "Choose Folder" window, click on the arrow to move to the appropriate folder.  Click on "Select (folder)" when you have finished.

Choose website folder

The "Publish New Page" window will re-surface.  Note the path of the folder at the bottom.  Change the file name if needed.  Then, click on "Publish".

Publish uploaded file

Now, you are finished.  You may link the file to your web site.
