Website Conversion Plan 2005
Essential Timeline
- June 6 - 23/27: Library website is frozen.
- June 23/27: New website is live.
Before June 6
- Copies of Contribute are distributed to web maintainers. They are cautioned not to use the software until notified.
- Copy of Contribute is installed on DC1568 workstation (before May 30). John will conduct train-the-trainers session on May 30.
- Contribute roles are finalized. Apply roles to htdocs2 before June 7.
- Bill will arrange for Esther to take on the role of Contribute administrator.
- Current website is archived on CD.
- June 2 -- Show staff Contribute; staff may choose to attend morning or afternoon session. All staff will be notified of the event. Web maintenance staff who cannot attend should be noted. (John will conduct the shows.)
- Esther and John can convert files that may not need to be updated before June 27, and place them in htdocs2.
June 6-7
- Charles will bring a copy of htdocs to htdocs3. Access to files in htdocs3 will be set up with one user account. The Library website is frozen. (Essential updates will need to be made on both htdocs and htdocs3.)
- Esther will copy updated files from htdocs2 into htdocs3, and will then start converting files in htdocs3, one directory at a time.
- June 7: Marina will present preliminary webpages of the new site (in htdocs2 or htdocs3) to Library managers.
June 8 - June 23/27
- June 8 - June 17: Web maintainers can practise with Contribute on htdocs2. A team of trainers will provide individual training to web maintainers at their own workstations.
- A conversion clean-up team will make adjustments to converted files in htdocs3. In order to make changes easily, Bill will set up Contribute access to htdocs3 for Esther, John, Marian, Rose and Marina.
- June 21 - 22: LibWebReview group and the ISR Training Committee will co-sponsor staff orientation sessions of the new website (in htdocs3).
- June 23: The new website is announced in news@your library.
June 23/27
- June 23/27: Charles will delete htdocs2 and re-map the live and test sites. New website is live!
- Staff may contact WebOps on design/navigation issues. Esther, Linda and Marina will help to solve problems or provide advice. The trainers and members of the conversion clean-up team are available to help if needed.
