Minutes of the Meeting of June 6, 2001

- 404 error page
The page created by Esther was approved. Chris will implement it site-wide.
- Results of the Zope evaluation
Bill reported on the meeting with representatives from IST, George Loney, and Don Hamilton. George Loney will mount an equivalent of the Ejournals web pages prototyped in the Zope environment into Cold Fusion and test its capability and flexibility.
- New web maintainer's training
Individual departments are responsible to ensure their staff are trained in Unix, HTML, and Dreamweaver. Training can be handled internally (if they have trained staff) or by attending courses provided by IST. Web Ops group (Esther) is responsible for those areas that are unique to our site (e.g., setting up the site and particular preferences).
- TUG web issues
Chris will make the final editing changes and send the memo to Mark, with a copy to our group.
- What's New - updating responsibilities, software, vacation time, etc.
Esther will ask Rose Koebel to serve as another back-up for "What's New." In order to edit the image, Rose will need to have Fireworks installed on her machine. Marina will arrange this with Carl.
- Library Web top page - loading time
To improve loading time would require redesigning the page. We agreed to hold off on redesign, since CNAPG is currently working on a prototype based on the results of the usability study done on our home page by the Systems Design class.
- Criteria/guiding principles for decisions on the use of features in Dreamweaver and the application of HTML codes
The group liked the direction Marina was moving in her draft document and encouraged her to continue. When completed, this document will be mounted on our web page.
- Fixing broken links

The above report lists errors (broken links, orphan files, etc.) for our Library web site. Esther will draft a memo to be sent to all web maintainers highlighting the importance of maintaining our site and encouraging them to fix the problems. Then she will target those areas requiring immediate attention, copy the errors noted in the report, and send them to the person responsible for maintaining that area.
- Staff training: web page design, library web page standards, fixing broken links, etc.
In the fall, Esther and Linda will present a session(s) covering the areas noted above.
