The minutes were approved.
There was a meeting on Aug 7, 2002 to plan for Web-site conversion. No minutes were taken.
Dreamweaver upgrade to MX.
Support for dropdown menus (added to discussion of backup staff access to essential files)
EZproxy
There is a problem with drop-down menus persisting when no longer wanted and pages with drop-down menus (new home page, new banner, staff web pages) loading slowly, especially in Netscape. Esther will try to redo the menus according to the method taught by IST in their course to see if this solves these problems, since the UWInfo page doesn't suffer from them
It was agreed that this should be done. Esther will make the change.
Rose Koebel and Marion Davies are helping maintain crucial Web site pages. It was agreed to give them permission to access the necessary files once they are fully trained.
Esther is now maintaining pages for User Services that were maintained by Kevin Rampersad and use drop-down menus. IST support for Fireworks and Dreamweaver for making drop-down menus is contributing to demand for this. WebOps is looking at whether to bring support for drop-down menus, Fireworks, IST's courses, and mutual support in-line with its recommendations on Dreamweaver.
Esther's redesign of the 404 message page to bring it into line with the new site look was OKed with the change of red text to black. Esther will make the page and put it into production.
The appropriate place to link to archive files was discussed. Esther will put the link in the documents page and add a heading to the archive page.
Esther has discovered that the increasingly distributed nature of the Web site makes it hard to be sure that when a change is made, it is propagated to all the places it needs to be. Esther will compile a list of these dependencies and Chris will investigate scripting the change propagation.
There seems to be confusion over the roles of WebOps, CNAPG, and ISMC in providing Web master services for the Library's Web site. Marina will consult Mark Haslett and Susan Routliffe to work toward clarification of roles.
Esther wondered about the need to upgrade to Dreamweaver MX for compatibility. The differences with Dreamweaver 4 aren't large enough to make change over a pressing need, and the addition of functionality of UltraDev and ColdFusion Studio to DWMX makes it questionable as an upgrade for staff who already have trouble with the complexity of Dreamweaver 4. Since DreamweaverMX is useful for people working with ColdFusion, it was decided to make DWMX available as needed by staff.
Bill announced that George Loney is advocating a switch from session mode to "go script" for EZproxy.
Bill mentioned that he has finished work on the new OCUL staff directory and he has customized it for use as a UW local staff directory.
Esther announced that she finished including the new page footer in the Web site and has updated the WebOps standards and guidelines to take into account the new site design.
