Web Operational Management Group

Minutes of the Meeting of December 11, 2002
Dana Porter Conference Room, 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Present: Esther Millar (Recorder), Paul St. Pierre, Marina Wan (Facilitator), Charles Woods

Regrets: Chris Gray, Linda Hastings, Bill Oldfield

Marina began the meeting by welcoming Paul to WebOps. We explained our procedures and mode of operating to Paul.

  1. Minutes of Meeting of November 13, 2002
Since the previous minutes have not been distributed, we will review them at our next meeting.
Esther will update our meeting schedule on our web site.

  2. Business Arising
    Deferred.

  3. Agenda Review
Add as #5. Links on home page to Online Reference and Connect from Home.

  4. TRELLIS Upgrade
Esther will prepare an alternate home page for use during the TRELLIS upgrade period. It will eliminate the links in the grey box that go to the Full Search and Cold Fusion Quick Search and include, in their place, a short explanatory message with a link going to the backup catalogue at: http://abc.wlu.ca. Esther will consult with Dan Sich and provide a preview for comment and suggestions by WebOps, Mark, and Susan. We will not change the links from the dropdown menus during this time.

  5. Links on home page to Online Reference and Connect from Home.
The link to Online Reference will remain in the new area for the next while.
The link to Connect from Home in the "new" area will be removed in January. In order to continue to provide a high profile for the link, it will be added to the home page as a permanent link positioned under Research Starting Points. Marina will send a note to Information Desk staff notifying them of this coming change.

  6. Online Continuing Education Courses
Opinion was divided as to what role WebOps should play in the registration process for courses covering content areas that come under WebOps' mandate. Further discussion was deferred and will be revisited when a broader membership is present.

  7. Dreamweaver - use survey; decisions on upgrades
    Deferred.

  8. Floor Plans on the web
    Deferred.

  9. Project with ISR discipline pages
Marina indicated that ISR will be getting a co-op student for January - August 2003. Projects are still under consideration, but one possibility is for this person to design a template for the discipline pages. Several subject librarians have expressed an interest in refreshing the look of their pages.

  10. Around the Table
Charles would like TOMG to look at revitalizing and updating the look of the WebVoyage pages by applying style sheets, form technology, javascripts for popups, etc. He wondered if the ISR co-op student might fit into this.

Charles also mentioned that we might keep our eye on the survey apparatus Bruce Campbell is building for the mywaterloo.ca portal.

Paul wondered if the group had formulated a priorities list. We responded that we had not, but agreed that this would be a valuable exercise.

Esther mentioned that there are a large number of broken links in the /staff/archives/IRC/ area. She has taken responsibility to fix them.
