Minutes of the Meeting of October 15, 2003

  1. Web Usability

    Mat and Anne reported on the process taking place to improve secondary pages. Mat said that he has worked with a number of people so far, right now he is working with Wish. Some of the goals are to cut out repeated material, to pick pages that are particularly problematic such as ILL, and anything that is directly connected from the home page. Mat will report again in December. Bill stated that the content management team will work with this project.

  3. Business Arising
    • #3 Application for a Co-op student has gone to Work Placement Office.
    • #4 Marina's files are all moved - Marian notified.

  5. Ask a Librarian

    After a short discussion the group approved page. Marina will go back to the group to say we approve.

    • The possibility of chat reference was discussed. Some felt that the software is relatively expensive and statistics show that there are not enough users to warrant the project going forward.
    • The Virtual Reference implementation group would like to start promotion of this tool. Action: Linda Hastings will create new buttons for the homepage.

  6. Structural Review - managing content

    The group discussed web content management structure.
    • ISMC has said that it does not want responsibility
    • It was suggested that we explore where responsibility lies for content management
    • Many felt that our group should as a whole work toward a policy and perhaps a specific person be assigned to the position of content web master.

    Marina reported that an additional member will not be added to the group.

  7. Addition to drop-down menu

    A new item will be added called 'external postings'. Action: Rose.

  8. Around the Table

    It was pointed out that some of the TUG drop downs are not working. Linda and Bill will look into this.
