Minutes of the Meeting of June 23, 2004
1:30pm, Porter 512A
Present: Chris Gray (Recorder), Linda Hastings, Esther Millar, Bill Oldfield, Marina Wan (Facilitator)
Absent: Christy Branston, Charles Woods
- Minutes of meeting, June 9, 2004
Approved with minor changes.
- Business Arising
2.5 Work placement applications are now sent to Susan Routliffe who passes them on to Lorraine Beatty who passes them on to Co-op.
2. The Coldfusion server migration is happening tomorrow which will put us in a position to install Contribute for testing.
2.7 Chris discovered that Dreamweaver's handling of endline characters largely overrides customization settings, so that there is not much to be done about added blank lines except to remove them when they occur. No message will go out to web maintainers.
4. Esther showed Chris the details of working with our templates. There appears to be no way to ease the difficulties.
- Agenda Review
No changes.
- CSS-based Web Site Project - Progress Report
This is moving along and has consisted so far mostly of training people to do the conversion. Ester is recording information that results from troubleshooting and a chart of directories and what has been done in each. There are some outstanding problems with our stylesheets, for instance, hanging indents and overlapping of title and contact info. Now that we have a refreshed test site, experiments can be made to fix these problems.
Bill and Esther reported on Jessie Rodgers's presentation on the new Faculty of Science Web site that uses CSS/XHTML.
- Password Change for Private StaffWeb Resources
The migration of the Coldfusion server to Windows 2003 and the need to be part of the ADS domain to allow uwdir authentication means that ADS password rules must be followed. Compliance requires a minor change in the libstaff password and for consistency the same password should be used on the Library's main Apache server. ACTION: Marina will make the password change on library and notify staff of the change.
- "Connect from Home" pages
Chris demonstrated a new version of the EZProxy login page that implements suggestions made that would help integrate EZProxy with the library's Web site. The link on the home page should go directly to the login page rather than the instruction page, once logged in patrons should be taken immediately back to the home page, and the navbar should appear on the log in page. ACTIONS: Marina will vet the new page with ISR and co-ordinate with Esther and Linda to change links pointing to the "Connect from Home" page. Bill and Charles will look into implementing login.lib.uwaterloo.ca as a new virtual host for the page.
- Tips series
The goal will be to begin the series in September and to accumulate a stock of prepared items. ACTION: Marina and Christy will work on this and solicit the participation of Marian Davies.
- Web business during vacation time
Web ops will deal with business as it arises and only call meetings over the summer as needed. Chris will call a meeting if needed during Marina's vacation.
- Around the Table
Bill - In converting our existing public interfaces for eJournals, Indexes, and eReference for the move to the Electronic Resource Management database, Bill is trying to implement CSS/XHTML at the same time. As other services are moved to the new MS SQL Server database, CSS/XHTML will be implemented.
- Bill will be working with Jessie Rodgers to help test the use of Contribute as a content management solution.
Esther - The new CSS version of the home page should be made live. ACTION: Esther will do this early next week.
