Approved.
Business Arising
5. Marina hasn't heard anything from Work Placement yet.
7. Esther noted that everyone in the library needs to have their Dreamweaver settings set appropriately in order to avoid adding extra line breaks.
ACTION: Chris will send instructions to web maintainers on how to configure Dreamweaver appropriately.
Bill noted that he has a copy of the key controller for Macromedia's Contribute software allowing us to set this up to see how it will work with our Cold Fusion server.
Agenda Review
Item 7 changed to item 6 as it relates to item 5.
Item added - Connect from home
CSS-based web site project
Esther has been working and fine-tuning DW templates. She shortened all the names of the templates and has worked with Sandra Keys to tweak the discipline page. Problems with subdirectories were discovered when using the css files. Subdirectories require their own set of hard links.
ACTION: Chris and Esther will work together to resolve this problem.
Esther is scheduled to meet with Amy Townsend to assist in the creation of the Architecture Library web site.
ACTION: Esther will set up a directory for this site.
ACTION: Christy will remind ISR staff to start converting pages in accordance with the new CSS-based web site. Web maintainers can contact Esther, Ted, Rose or Marian to get started.
UW Web directions
From a meeting that Marina and Bill attended, Bill reported that two committees have been formed to look after UW web development. One committee will be responsible for web operations and will get its guidance from the second committe - the web steering committee whose authority comes from the Provost (who, in turn, receives advice from the Communcations steering committee). Redesign suggestions were met with hesitation from the Steering Committee.
Web Site Planning Timeline
Bill distributed a document summarizing the nexts steps for the Library web site. The document highlighted the Content Management approach, accessibility and meeting web standards by noting our move towards using CSS on the public site. The document was shared with the Library Executive and Managers.
Connect from Home
Doug Morton suggested that the Connect from Home instruction page should be changed so that users are automatically presented with the login page since a lot of users will now be familiar with the process and this will lower the number of clicks necessary to login.
ACTION: Chris will develop a page to accomodate this change. He will also remove the link back to the Library homepage and have users redirected automatically.
Tips Series
Marina would like to see a smaller group formed to manage this.
ACTION: This agenda item will be discussed at the next meeting.
Around the Table
Bill announced that there is a way to migrate to the Microsoft SQL server adding one service at a time.
