Our new CSS-based homepage and navigation bars are not read properly by the new Docutech service adopted by the Virtual Reference Group. Chris will review the problems and provide written documentation that can be forwarded by Doug Morton to Docutech for their attention.
- Databases' Webpage Design
With ERM going live, we now have the opportunity to custom design our Library's pages. Christy brought the topic to a recent ISR meeting where several members volunteered to join a group that will work on database webpage design.
Membership of this group will be: Dan Sich, Helena Calogeridis, Morag Coyne, Linda Hastings, Bill Oldfield, Christy Branston. Bill will prepare Terms of Reference, including scope and timelines.
- Homepage Review
Usability testing was utilized with the last major redesign of the web site. Since then we have made numerous small changes. We agreed it would be beneficial to do usability testing again with the view to refining the dropdown menus and reviewing content, not for a redesign of the site. A group will be established to look at this. Marina, Christy, and Linda will be members in addition to representation from ISR.
At the moment no one in CNAC is trained to do web usability studies, but at their next CNAC meeting Shabiran will ask for a volunteer to join our review group. Marina has compiled a list of Resources on Web Site Usability. She also introduced us to several courses available at the Professional Learning Centre at the University of Toronto.
- Around the Table
Bill reported that the IST group looking at web technology will be looking at the Library's Content Management report at its next meeting.
Marina will be taking the UT course entitled: "Information Architecture."
We received 9 applications for the co-op position.
