- Co-op Employment and Projects
Affan Javed, the new co-op student for this Fall, was welcomed and presented his background to the WebOps team.
Affan will help with the XHTML/CSS conversion with the interesting areas of UMD and the Library Newsletter still remaining to be converted. He may also assist in a few other areas: OCUL Contracts Project, Government Publication Database, Online Tours and possibly some UWAce activity.
- Contribute
Contribute is the Macromedia software package, previously demo ed to WebOps, that will allow users to maintain their web pages easily and efficiently. Version 3, now released, could achieve many of the CMS functional requirements for a Content Management Framework as presented in the Library's CMF report.
Mark will be meeting with the UW WebOps group and introduce the possibility of the Library mounting a trial of Contribute and Macromedia's Web Publishing Services to see if it can met the Library's and the University's needs.
- Database Webpage Design
Bill presented a planning document for the Database Web Page Design Project. The project will look at the redesign of the UW public interface to the TUG services now maintained using ERM.
After considerable discussion it was decided that the scope of the project should be limited to achieve a couple of priority objectives. Now that the page need not meet the needs of the other TUG libraries it can be more appropriately designed to meet the Waterloo Library requirements. Secondly it was recognized that these pages must be adjusted to meet accessibility requirements. Improvement in these areas should be met expeditiously. As a result the project plan will be adjusted to achieve 2 primary objectives, 1. Make the pages fit more appropriately into the UW Library Web site, 2. Change the pages to ensure they meet UW accessibility requirements.
Bill will redraft the document before sending it to the project members. Marina Wan and Affan Javed were added to the members list.
- Around the Table
Chris - Terminal Services is live. Access to most items is integrated with other items such as Journal Indexes, etc as appropriate. Remaining items are being evaluated for loading or placing in Controlled Access depending upon the volume of use. Access is also available through TRELLIS. The CD only terminals and the storage space on the library computer will be required for a while longer.
Charles - The Daily Bulletin announcement about the public meeting regarding Collaborative Software for the University of Waterloo was introduced. This is software for group work-like activities. Some members from WebOps will attended to keep informed about this activity.
