  2. Business Arising

#4.2 Marina will add the link described therein. Chris will review and update the advice on the page which describes how to create Contributed-friendly URLs.

#5 Marina did send a note to Susan Routliffe regarding staff-home-page content as described..

#7c.The statistics for the sfx_form.html page have yet to be done.

  3. Agenda Review

    Several changes were made:

    #5. Contribute Settings
    #6. Tutorial Template
    #7. Audio Conference and Webcasts
    #8 Items from LibWebReview
    #9 OLA Superconference
    #10. Around the table.

  4. Library Site Aliases

These URLs now work to bring up the Library home site:

    http://www.lib.uwaterloo.ca
    http://lib.uwaterloo.ca
    http://www.library.uwaterloo.ca
    http://library.uwaterloo.ca

The 2nd and 3rd ones were added as DNS aliases to permit matchups when users misremember the correct site-URL; the idea was suggested independently by Chris Redmond and users via a LibWebReview usability study. Of these, only the first one, http://www.lib.uwaterloo.ca, remains the official URL for the Library website. The others work but are NOT to be recommended as approved alteratives to reference the site and should not be bookmarked as such. A change will be made to the Apache configuration file to cause these all to resolve back to www.lib.uwaterloo.ca

  5. Contribute Settings

The group considered and dismissed the option of decreasing the number of rollbacks for files kept when web pages are changed or deleted. It was agreed that there were no severe space problems and that the security maintained by this number of rollbacks should not be diminished. Esther and Charles will plan for an annual review of the website to identify aberrant/orphaned files accured through the year.

  6. Tutorial Template

Esther demonstrated a template being devised by herself and Mukal Seth for library tutorial pages. It differs from the standard template in its use of a different navigational structure. The template is available to anyone on the site and all ISR staff will be notified when it is ready for use. It will also be promoted via webmaint-l@library.uwaterloo.ca.

  7. Audio Conference and Webcasts

Marina highlighted webcasts available from the Education Institute at :
    lhttp://www.thepartnership.ca/cgi-bin/site/showPage.cgi?page=education/index.html

A calendar of events can be found at:
    http://www.thepartnership.ca/cgi-bin/site/showPage.cgi?page=education/calendar.html

LibWebReview and LibWebops will facilitate sessions and invite interested staff. It was noted that Chris Gray has several subjects pending presentation and that Library Systems hopes to implement a noon-hour Lunch 'n Learn series.

  8. Items from Library Web Review group

Several items were highlighted from the last LibWebReview meeting of February 15, and include topics such as quick polls, library online floor plans, and ScholarsPortal search techniques. Details can be found at:

  9. OLA Superconference

Marina reported on the OLA Superconference ( http://www.accessola.com/superconference2006/
resources.html ) . It was noted that a number of sites were reporting on their progress with innovative library technology and that the Library needs to strive to keep current. Many technologies such as library blogging, Wikis, and RSS feeds are going main-stream; staff need to investigate, play with and implement these tools. It was suggested that WebOps members should identify and share the URLs of sites applying these new technologies.

  10. Around the Table

Esther reported that a new design is in place for RSS feeds of news@yourLibrary. She also reported CLF changes: a new banner, and new headings. Esther also noted that she has registered for an IST course regarding the creation of banners and collages.

  11. Next Meeting.

March 21 at 1:30 pm in the DCL Conference room. Bill Oldfield will be recorder.
