Web Operational Management Group

Minutes of the Meeting of April 19, 2006
1:30 - 3:30 pm, DP 428 Conference Room

Present: Marina Wan (facilitator), Chris Gray (recorder), Christy Branston, Esther Millar

  1. Minutes of Meeting, April 5, 2006
    Accepted with a minor change.
  2. Business Arising
#5 - Chris sent message to staff about the test Wiki.

#6 - The W3C form Esther uses to produce an RSS feed for news@your library uses a default stylesheet so that the browser view of the RSS feed is not the raw XML.  The raw XML can be viewed by viewing the page source.

#9 - Charles has not yet created the library test site.
  3. Agenda Review
    No changes
  4. Web 2.0/Library 2.0
There was discussion of the possibilities for use of Blogs, Wikis, and RSS feeds in the library's Web site.   These function, in part, as partial means of content management and interaction with users.  It is still an undecided question whether the library should invest in a more comprehensive content management plan.  After the library's content management feasibility study, IST charged the library to move forward in investigating further but this has not materialized.  Perhaps this can be revisited after the appointment of the new AUL.

If Blogs and Wikis need to be maintained with fresh information so the library needs to have a plan for them and be committed to devoting the necessary resources to them.

Many see the possibilities for internal collaborative use for Wikis by departments, groups, and committees, but it would also be worthwhile to develop them as a means of interacting and communicating with users.  Christy and Chris will put together a proposal for a pilot project to use a Wiki for discipline pages where liason librarians could communicate with students and faculty.

[At this point the recorder was called away for a server emergency.  Can anyone fill in what happened after this?]
