#4. Web 2.0/Library 2.0 -
To accommodate CNAC's requirements for a secure environment to collaboratively work on the CNAC User Survey report, Chris installed a new version of MediaWiki (vers. 1.5) on the test server. Chris noted that Twiki software would be better suited for this application where sections have different permissions. Twiki is also used elsewhere on campus, thus providing further opportunities for support. But Twiki is targetted more to technical-savvy users. Therefore, CNAC wishes to continue with MediaWiki at this time so Chris is configuring MediaWiki for their requirements.
Since the wikis are set up for experimentation, Chris was urged not to let things become too onerous for himself. Chris suggested that a good way to experiment with wikis is to go to an established wiki and participate in it, e.g., Best Practices Wiki.

#6. PDF Resources
- RSS Feed and Other WEb 2.0 Applications in Libraries
http://wiki.lib.uwaterloo.ca/mediawiki/index.php/Web2.
We reviewed the various examples for Wikis, Blogs, and RSS feeds. During the extensive discussion, several decisions were made:
Christy noted that she will be using SharePoint (a program being used by others on campus for collaborative work) for working on the Porter Renovations Planning Team.
ACTION: Charles will investigate its status on campus (re: licensing timelines and support).
ACTION: Chris will establish a process to back up the MySQL databases for both instances of MediaWiki (the general test and the one with group security for CNAC).
The group struggled on how to proceed with investigating the new technologies.
ACTION: Marina and Christy agreed to look at the strengths and drawbacks of the various technologies. They will then look at the Library's needs and suggest which technologies could provide solutions.
- Integration Strategies
Deferred.
- PDF Documents
The Library has begun receiving several CDs that are comprised entirely of PDF documents. There is no need for them to be set up on the terminal server. They could simply be made available from the Library's web site.
ACTION: Christy and Marina will set up a directory for this type of material (suggested directory name was edocs). Within this directory there will be two subdirectories, a uwonly subdirectory with an associated .htaccess file to accommodate licensing restrictions and an open directory for all other files. Each resource would be established under its own subdirectory in the appropriate area. They will consult with Chris and Charles.
This will be established as a test with a request being submitted to IRMC to establish a protocol so catloguing, etc. know how to handle such items.
- Around the Table
Marina suggested that we invite Jesse Rodgers to a future meeting to report on the directions of the University web site and CLF.
ACTION: Marina
Esther noted that in cleaning up many of the old files, she has been saving images of previous versions of our web site.
At the group's suggestion, she will check the Wayback Machine for even older versions.

ACTION: Esther will continue to develop this page.
Bill noted that he is currently tied up with setting up the government information database.
