#4: Login page for EZproxy
- Login page for EZproxy>
Currently, in cases where a user is directed to our proxy login from a go script (e.g., for a licensed ejournal or research database), if said user uses his/her browser's 'back' button to get back to a page of (e.g.) ejournal links, s/he'll once again be directed to our proxy server.
This has something to do with our using our own login and ColdFusion to communicate between our connect from home page and EZproxy proper. Another option exists: to use EZproxy's login. The problem has been that we couldn't fit said login within our CLF. Given our new understanding of the CLF (i.e. that we have more freedom in our inclusion/exclusion of side navigation), we can reconsider our approach to the login.
ACTION: Chris will mock-up a connect from home login page that looks like a UW library page sans any left nav or right quick links, which uses the EZproxy login proper rather than our current local solution.
- UW banner in Flash
UW's homepage now contains a 'scrolling' / 'slideshow' image banner which utilizes Flash.
Action: Marina will ask LibWebReview
for opinions on:
- the purpose / goal / audience of such images, what they should convey; suggestions included images that are intriguing, have variety, include people (not just buildings), books, have visual appeal, etc.
- what the image navigation should look like (i.e. buttons, grey or non-greying, etc.)
- Web Projects
Document at http://wiki.lib.uwaterloo.ca/mediawiki/index.php/Projects%2C_2006 was reviewed.
Highest priorities:
- Google Analytics: Charles, Chris and Bill are working on it.
- Quick poll software support: more precise details vis a vis functionality are required. Action: Marina will arrange for meeting with Chris, Rachel & Esther.
- CNAC Library Satisfaction Survey: we'll wait for the report.
High priority:
- Wikis: need to determine a virtual host (e.g., wiki.lib.uwaterloo.ca). Action: Dan. Determine where they will be located 'permanently' (i.e. will a new server be required?). Action: New AUL.
- Blogging: decision pending between WordPress and b2evolution. Action: Chris will determine what developments may have with occured WordPress vis a vis multiple blog functionality. b2evolution's multiple blog functionality means less of a workload for Systems vis a vis setting up new blogs. WordPress is more popular than b2evolution and therefore has more plug-ins/add-ins (e.g., for calendars, quick polls, etc), whereas enhancements to b2evolution occur to the 'base product'. Action: Dan will canvas testers on their preference.
- Location maps: LibWebReview subgroup's (Marian, Bill, Esther, Dan) work is nearing completion.
- Authentication simplification: Chris and Charles are working on it.
- TRELLIS external authentication to UWdir (added to list). Idea is to use a proxy-and-TRELLIS, two-in-one login system in TRELLIS similar to what UG has.
- Library application integration: e.g., for TRELLIS, TUGdoc, connect from home, RACER, etc. the idea is to have one login insofar as possible. Action: Marina will ask LibWebReview to list major tools used by info desk staff. Need to identify most likely 'paths' of reaching our eResources and login pages.
- Around the Table
Esther has sent Linkbot reports.
Dan is providing a Meebo demonstration at Friday's Davis ISR meeting. Porter ISR has been invited. Dan will invite WebOps and LibWebReview members.
ACTION: Esther will contact Rose to update the Conference Room bookings.
ACTION: Marina will update the BookIt entries
