Minutes of the Meeting of July 5, 2007

  1. New Model
    The group discussed Allan's proposed model.

  2. a) Approval of WebOps Minutes of May 16, 2007
    Approved with minor changes.

    b) Business Arising
    #4: LibX: "Charles will query group to determine if others are tracking usage." Allan will check with Charles about the results of his query to the listserv.

  3. a) Approval of LibWebReview Minutes of June 20, 2007
    Minutes had not yet been distributed. Helena will send out shortly.

  4. Agenda Review
    TRELLIS Banner added as new #5 .

    Dan has created content for the pages linked from Find Books and Find Articles. The group decided that for now the pages will not be linked into our main web site, rather they will only exist as links from the TRELLIS Banner.
    ACTION: Dan  / Allan
    Dan will prepare 2 emails: one email outlining the problems being addressed with the TRELLIS navbar and how it will provide solutions (for Allan to take to the Priorities Group); one email to the ISR members of WebOps and LibWebReview for their feedback.
    The project will also be sent to project management.  Allan will arrange for Dan to get an account on QuickBase. Once approved, Allan will ask Charles to enter the banner mockup into http://www.voyw-test.uwaterloo.ca/ .

  6. Quick Polls
    Quick polls add value if we are able to evaluate the results and discern benefits from the results received. The promotional component of the Quick Poll (the "Did you know..." portion that displays with the results window) adds value to the poll and we will, therefore, go ahead with it. All questions will have the promotional component.
    ACTIONS: Dan will update the top ten questions so that all have the promotional component.
    Esther will add the appropriate coding into the current home page so that the first poll will be ready to go live on Monday, July 9.
    Chris will watch for/solve any technical problems that might occur over the summer.

  7. Approval for August Conversion
    The conversion is scheduled for the week of August 20.
    ACTION: Esther will incorporate/implement the following changes:
    a) left navigation: the bolding and positioning of links as illustrated in http://www.libtest.uwaterloo.ca/index_esther_test14.html
    b) changes to Books & more and Articles search: remove the word "about" and move its link to the "more" of "Books & more"
    The sample search will not be included under the Journal Articles search. Instead Chris will alter the Scholar's Portal Quick Search into a keywords or phrases search.

    c) css changes: right navigation (home page and lower level pages) still require approval. Esther will send an email to the group asking for comments on the proposed changes.

    d) Current News Blog & Feed on home page: the current script that produces the feed for the home page has certain limitations (no images or hyperlinks, odd truncation of text) and will not be implemented until a more satisfactory solution is found. ACTION: Chris will look into this.

  8. Coverage over the summer:
    ACTION: Esther will send out an email to all web maintainers requesting that for the summer months all questions concerning Contribute administration and maintenance, and requests for updates to the Current News area of the home page be addressed to the WebOps email alias. WebOps members are asked to reply to requests as noted on on the vacation schedule. A column for coverage for services has been added to the schedule. If you are going to be away, please make sure you add your vacation days to the schedule so others know who is around to handle questions.

  9. Other Business
    We will meet every other Wednesday over the summer.
    ACTION: Esther will alternately book the Porter and Davis Conference Rooms from 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm beginning on July 18. She will update BookIt if time permits.
    Updating email aliases, etc. will wait until Allan has had a chance to write up mandates, etc.
