Minutes of the Meeting of October 31st, 2007

  1. Approval of WebOps Minutes of October 17, 2007
    Accepted with minor corrections.

  2. Business Arising
    1. # 2.9 Action: Allan will see that the information about staff wanting guidelines for cancelling long (as opposed to stuck) public print jobs is directed to the correct people.
    2. # 2.5 Action: Allan still to forward URLs for other libraries' beta sites.
  3. Agenda review
    Quick Polls added as item 9.

  4. Library's 50th Anniversary Site

    Action: Esther will add a links to the staff Web site at the bottom of both the left and right navigation menus on the home page.

  5. Links to widgets and LibX

    Action: Dan will do usability testing on the various options for links to the Google widgets for the TRELLIS and ScholarsPortal searches and to LibX.  Doug mentioned that Virginia Tech has an IE version of LibX coming.  Action: Bill will be asked to contact Art Rhyno about Windsor's ScholarsPortal search in their LibX.


  6. Facebook Applications

    Dan reviewed facebook applications done by U of Alberta and UBC.  Doug raised the question of how much a Facebook App is a priority.  Allan suggested we need to (1) do research, (2) get Primo going, and (3) talk to the Web priorities group.  Action: Allan will follow up with Kenton Good at U of A and ask how they track usage and get quantitative data and he will bring the matter to the attention of the priorities group.  In the meantime, we can keep working on a prototype.  Chris suggested asking the Web4Lib list for feedback on experience with Facebook Apps.

  7. Literature Review

    We agreed all members would read a part of one of the books "Don't Make Me Think" and "The Elements of User Experience" for each meeting and to set aside time to discuss the reading at each meeting.  We will begin with the first chapter of "Don't Make Me Think".

  8. WebOps Training

    Chris presented a mind map of some brainstorming done to outline the possibilities for training.

  9. Quick Polls

    Action: Nancy will take responsibility for the quick polls and questions.

  10. Around the Table

    Esther will begin booking Web Ops meetings for the new year.
