There will be one CGI script controlling all the spam proofing of the forms. Forms can be created in Contribute and passed to Systems for the Spam Proofing application. There are some outstanding accessibility issues that need to be considered. Action: Bill will bring documentation for ongoing form creation to the next meeting. The application will be checked with accessibility software (JAWS).
- Literature Review
Allan started by quoting parts of an article on Web Redesign. http://www.gerrymcgovern.com/nt/2007/nt-2007-07-30-redesign.htm. Discussion focused on the three components of Strategy, Audience and Tasks. We need to know what we want the site to do. Further study will be required to more completely identify our audience and determine their needs. Chris expanded on these ideas with the literature review of “The Elements of User Experience”. For a web site to be successful there needs to be a strategy, and that strategy needs to articulate all components of the web site. What does the provider of the web site want, and what do the users of the web site want? The strategy needs to be available to everyone and form the guiding principles. Some manner of success metrics need to be established. The challenge is how to measure success.
Identification of the user and the user's needs is paramount. What do they do, and how do they do it? With web design, one size does not fit all.
Action: All members are to consider the objectives of the Library website. One suggestion is “Connect users to services and resources they need”.
Action: Strategy brainstorming during a future WebOps meeting.
