  1. Approval of WebOps Minutes of January 9, 2008
    Minutes approved with changes.

  2. Business Arising
2.5 Bill reported that testing indicated that the current setup of ReCaptcha would not work with JAWS however he has found a solution which will be in place soon.

Allan has set up BaseCamp projects for Webops and has enrolled members.

Allan has been in touch with a resource person for developing personas.

Allan and Nancy are developing a first draft of a vision statement which will be distributed soon.

  3. Agenda Review
    8. The "Whereis" function - Charles
    9. Statistics from Google Analytics - Charles

  4. Focus Groups, Surveys, Usability Testing
Marian responded to a query about testing done for the previous library website redesign. One survey was carried out, with approval from the Ethics Committee, with results being analyzed with Avivo. Responses are online at staffweb>Libwebreview>knowledgebase>
    survey results
with a summary . Some ad-hoc feedback was garnered and discussed during the redesign process as well but results were neither compiled nor recorded. That redesign was constrained by the CLF and authority control (who has the authority over changes in each area).

Further audience research will be needed for this redesign: Action: Marian will research best practices for audience testing and perhaps an audience advisory group.

  5. Home Page Banner & Right Navigation Advertisement
Esther and Nancy presented a new home page banner and advertisement in the right hand column to be used for an upcoming contest "Why do you love the Library?", see libtest. Suggested deployment is Feb. 7 to last for one month. Some suggestions were made about what could easily be made linkable, especially in the rotating home page banner (it might be non-rotating for the month), and the placement of the ad. Action: Esther and Nancy will continue development of the banner, advertisement and contest.
  6. Google Search Enhancements
Bill believes he has Google Search working properly for the library website; all public sites are available with one search and any staff web material will be filtered out. Action: Bill will put it onto the test site.
  7. Connect From Home - Remote Login Page
After users login at the "Connect from Home" page they see a screen offering choices they may or may not be interested in connecting to. Unfortunately the page stays visible for only 5 seconds, not long enough to be used. Several options were discussed. Action: Chris will set the redirect to "0" seconds, sending users to the library home page.
  8. The "Whereis" function
Charles will investigate why Guelph suspended their implementation of the "whereis" function in Trellis. If there are no major problems he will set a goal of implementing it here by the end of February.
  9. Statistics from Google Analytics
Charles reported that this year's use statistics are a blend of counts from Apache and Google Analytics. In the future GA will be able to count much more than Apache does so our site use statistics will look great!
  10. Literature Review
    Chapters 2, 3, & 4 of Don't make me think were discussed.
  11. Around the Table
    Nothing.
