Minutes of the Meeting of June 19, 2008

  1. Approval of WebOps Minutes of May 28, 2008
    Approved with changes.

  2. Business Arising
    3 - 3.1 Allan reported that Eva has been busy and unable to review the pages sent to her.
    5. Esther has added the communication tools to the right navbar of the staffweb.
    6. Bill reported that the Ontario German Bibliography and the thesaurus has now been moved to a production basis.
    8. Implementation and Release Management - Allan reported that images of "Beta" icons have been circulated.
    - A website feedback form requesting the change of ejournals on the A-Z list with the subject heading "Ophthalmology" be changed to "Optometry" Action: Doug will look into the feasibility and effects of making the change or, as an alternate, requesting SFX change to "Optometry and Ophthalmology".

  3. Agenda Review
    6. Literature review was dropped during the meeting.

  4. Forms: Operation and Documentation
    Bill has developed and circulated instructions for a method and scripts that allow anyone to post forms that should be secure from spammers. Instructions are to be posted in the WebOps documentation area . Forms in the public area have been converted to the spam-resistant format.
    - Samples of the resulting forms will be reviewed by Kate for accessibility.
    - People setting up such forms will need to use Dreamweaver.
    Currently, forms in the restricted access staff area have not been converted.

  5. Top Content
    Bill presented the results of an analysis based on Google Analytics of use of the library's top page covering Jan. 1 through Apr. 30, 2008. This will give page designers an idea of the popularity of various functions.

  6. Around the Table
    • Bill announced:
      - there is a new version of LibX available which works with Firefox 3.
      - The A-Z lists open in larger windows
      - The Coldfusion programs for the Academic Integrity module have been moved to the production system.
    • Allan reminded us that we have yet to find a place for the widgets developed by Dan Sich.
    • Nancy reported that she and Marian had developed an image to go onto the desktop of public workstations reminding users to save their work. This will be presented to ISR at their June 20 meetings.
    • Allan reported:
      - The UW identity is moving forward and there will be information sessions soon.
      - He attended a Mark Logic conference; there were many interesting developments.
