  1. Approval of WebOps Minutes of July 14– Approved.

  2. Additional Agenda

    bxRecommender was added.

  3. Business Arising (based on a review of action items)

Shibboleth and other means of campus authentication -- Doug reported on a proxy situation in which a user can be prompted for a Shibboleth signon. It was noted that Chris Gray is leading a project investigating authentication and authorization issues, including the campus use of the CAS service. Doug will send further occurances of the shibboleth problem to Chris as he continues his investigation.

  4. Primo Home Page

Alison Hitchens reviewed several Primo display issues with the Web Operational management group. She noted those areas of the home page that can be edited by a site and displayed the approaches of other Primo sites to its configuraton. It was noted that some sites use the initial Primo page to promote a library site in general whereas others focus specifically on the Primo discovery system.

Alison will work with Adrian to create some examples for review. It was decided to have a simple page that would focus on searchs, with key links to sub-pages to send them to help and more information.

  5. LibGuides Update

Kathy Szigeti and Rose Koebel updated the group on the LibGuides project. It was noted that 90% of the guides are now in production. The group thanked Kathy, Rose, Nancy and Esther for their work. It was reported that external users like the system and specific mention was made of positive feedback from faculty members.

A LibGuides Administrative Team was been formed for the implementation and will continue to lead LibGuides. It was noted that Kathy will periodically attend WebOps meetings to report on LibGuides developments. Adrian provides ongoing technical support.

Some problems have been encountered with the use of the Ezproxy service and libGuides; Chris and Kathy will explore the issues. Chris and Annie are to send out instructions for reporting proxy issue, in collaboration with Kathy.

The group discussed the use of redirects to automatically take a user from an old URL to the new libGuides one. It was decided that we would not maintain them past 8 months from launch.

Work continues on "best practices" documents and presentations on topics such as accessibility in the LibGuides system

  6. Proposed changes to the Subject Guides page

The group discussed the need to have all areas organize content in a consistent manner. At this time, with a redesign looming, the group decided that Nancy could proceed with the changes.

  7. bxRecommender service

It was noted that the bxRecommender trial was going to expire shortly and that some OCUL members are already commenting on the use of the system. The group discussed several aspects of the bxRecommender server both for and against the service. It was agreed that the liaison librarians should be consulted about their experiences and the results tabled in the next meeting. Doug was asked to some some analysis of bxRecommender statistics to assist in any recommendation coming from the group. The recommendation will probably be referred to the Ad Hoc Discovery & Access Committee.

  8. Next Meeting: October 13, 2:00-3:30 pm. Recorder: Marian.
